S2 vs. F10 comparisons

Thanks for the comparison shots Rich. The F10 and S2 seem like a great indoor/outdoor combination. I have the older F700 (which does well at ISO 800, has better dynamic range and manual feature set but much less resolution.) It seems like fuji still has problems with CA in its smaller cams.

Looks like the auto mode in the F10 needs a serious firmware upgrade. The photos seem a 1/2 stop overexposed, and default to too high an ISO when not needed. Why 1/360sec at ISO 200 when 1/120 at ISO 80 would look cleaner? The auto on the F700 works great, I wonder if fuji will provide a fix? For now maybe consider using -1/3 or -2/3 EV for auto shooting.

Sure wish Canaon would embed ISO into its EXIF.

Glad your enjoying your cams. Have 2 wks to make my decision on a ultrazoom for my trip to the UP.

If one camera works much better for the average user, than the other, then we do have a comparison of out of the box useability. Maybe the automatic mode of the F10 is junk, while the S2 auto does better. Maybe the benefits of IS are showing in the sharpness.

These comparisons do have benefit. I would call this a scientific test of the average consumer. Many of us won't (or can't) take the time to shott from a tripod and so that makes a difference in the pictures. If we are doing an "auto versus auto" test of two very disimilar cameras, then the features make a difference.

And if anybody says "We all know this camera should beat that camera's performance in this area or another" then you are not being scientific, you have already made up your mind, don't try to poison other's who are trying to make a rational decision.
I don't mean to seem critical but If you are just going to set them
both on auto and shoot away and post side by sides without checking
the data, it's not much help to anyone. Sorry again If this sounds
to critical.

Excellent point. That would only handicap one camera to the self imposed handicap of the other.
well tell me -- since the F10 cant be adjusted to lower ISOs, why
should i crank the S2 up to higher ISOs one wouldnt use?

thanks for the comments and questions tk -- agree that its a good pair for indoor, outdoor

agree that a firware would be a good correction for the F10

for now, i like your idea to put in a - correction on the exposure -- will give it a try

i am also shooting some more compares with the S2 to get the settings more = so i can get those hostile fuji guys off my back :)

enjoy the UP -- my brother jsut retired to Gran Marrey (sp) at the top of the UP -- know it?

S2 outdoor images obvious look nicer. what surprises me the most is that I thought F10 would compete well, but most F10 images seem to be out of focus, it becomes apparent in the following two shots. I wonder if it's just your F10 or it's typical of F10.

obvious S2 can not compete with F10 in resolution, but in this comparision S2 clearly produces much sharper and cleaner images than F10.

I wonder if the original poster got a bad F10, I've seen some amazing F10 images from some major review sites, but I've also heard some F10 owners complain about the pictures being fuzzy.
