Were you aware that this is almost the exact same line that was used with regard to the Pearl White Minolta 8000i "kits" (including flash and lens in the same finish) back during Desert Storm? But with those, it was that the white equipment reflected the sun better, making them less prone to failure from heat and keeping the film safer as well. But because the military didn't need enough to warrant an entire run themselves, Minolta made them available to the general public.

Or so the story goes....as I heard it from B&H and others back then.

Never did find out why the military would have wanted those little Freedom Zooms though.... :)

Q Why is white?

A It's a special lens used for surveillance telephoto
photography in winter by the Armed Forces. They ordered a huge
number and didn't need many so they sold them back to the company.
A lot of these have been resold to photographers to take pictures
at sports events. Watch a football game and you'll see a lot of
Army issue lenses used on the sidelines. They are very expensive if
you can find them because they use secret military technology and
are specially painted white for winter camo use.

Q: Ya think digital cameras'll ever be as good as film?

A: [holding the LCD up to the person] Yes.

I have summarized this thread due to my personal amusement, and just thought I'd share it with the rest of the world.

True Story while shooting a kids hockey tournament -

Woman walks up to me

"That's a nice camera, it takes good pictures"
"Thanks" I mumble while trying to keep working
"Do you do studio portraits?"
"Yes, here is my card"
"Do you do nudes?"
"umm I have on occasion"
"Would you do porn of my friend and me? My husband keeps asking"

Not exactly the venue where I would expect a question like that. I politely declined.
