Hello,

I am new to photography and I have just bought an Olympus OM-D E-M10 mark 2 along with an Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R MSC lens from MPB but I am having an issue: when I rotate the manual zoom ring on the lens to anything above 14mm the screen on the camera says “please check the status of a lens” and even if I turn it back to 14mm it won’t work until I remove the lens and put it back on. Does anyone know what the issue is and how can it be fixed it?

I would head over to the Micro Four Thirds forum to find people with experience with this particular lens.

Even if your lens turns out to have an issue, don't give up on the E-M10ii. It's a spectacular little camera and great for many kinds of everyday shooting. I've had mine for years and consider it a kit essential.

I have the setup and I have no issue with them.

My e-m10.2 has v1.4 firmware and the 14-42R has 1.1. Here is an instruction link on how to update the camera firmware without a cable.

You can try to clean the contacts on the camera and lens and see if that fixes the problem.

Update:

I have discovered that the lens can zoom to about 32mm before the message on the screen appears, so i am still confused as to what the problem might be.

Thank you to everyone for the help.

Based on the post above yours this is likely a physical problem inside the lens. Return it if possible. The camera could be at fault but that seems less likely.

Mpb typically offers a six month warranty. They should sort this out with you.
