Hi there,

This has just happened. It's a new one on me. Happened when my partner was shooting with it. After about a dozen shots into the session.

Black screen with the "Please check the status of a lens" error message on it. And a sort of short muted groan from the lens when the camera is turned on.

Same error on both EM1ii and EM5ii. Other lenses are fine. It's just this one.

It's a PITA as it's my partner's favourite lens, and also the one I've had most fun with on both cameras over some years.

I'm half-heartedly hoping some of you can say " you just have to tap it gently with a hammer and it starts working". But I don't think that's the case.

Any insights?

Clean the contacts. Don't push on the leans release button when mounting the lens.

FWIW, the distance indicator (orange/red(?) line) on the lens barrel is set at infinity.

I don't know if this is its normal resting state. I can't remember, as I've never had to notice fact that before.

The problem indicates a communication error. Cleaning the contacts with a proper cleaning solution is the first thing anyone would recommend and you have tried that. As you have already checked with other cameras and lenses , the issue is evidently with this particular lens. So, you need to send it for service.

Had faced similar issue with my old zoom lenses twice and got it rectified at minimal cost. Apparently, the connecting cable strip inside the lens had torn-off and needed replacement - the second time when the issue recurred, the zoom portion of the shell was also replaced.

Best wishes,

Ramesh

Phone call made, lens will be packaged up soon to get it sent off.

Time to dust off the extension tubes and use those for a bit.

There aren't many for sale used, and when they are they're not given away cheaply. A sign of a good lens.

I've had good experiences with Olympus repair previously. I know it will come back in excellent condition.

Just had same with my 60mm whilst shooting and no joy cleaning contacts. How did your repair progress and what did they charge?

Same problem. I've had mine since 2014 and have been actively using it this year then last Thursday it quit working. Sent it in and OM-DigitalSolutions repair has it now - $260 fixed lens repair price.

Lens came back today. All better - seems to work like new.

Mine was £109 or $150, OMmDigital,Solutions .

Replaced front lens, lens barrel and rear lens (doesn’t leave much does it). Checked and cleaned.

US is usually cheaper than U.K.

I didn't see anything about what they did, it just came back and worked. Where did you get all that info on the repair?
