Problem of enlarging RAW image with adapte(re)d manual lens

Since people here can re-create the bug and you are all using the
latest firmware (?) has someone reported this to Sony?
It is maybe not a big "bug" but should be fixed in next firmware update.
Yeah, some of the posts seem to be an overreaction. It doesn't feel like a "serious" problem, and it does have adequate workarounds.

Like any software bug, report it, and hopefully we'll get an update.

If it doesn't get patched, you know how to get past it. It's not a "showstopper".

That doesn't mean that those of us who work in the software industry like bugs, but we are used to dealing with them. We are surrounded by flaws, sometimes in the fundamental design of a component. Like, it appears that my car's automatic door locks are known to go bad after a few years. It's a common problem, and yet it is not something that has been recalled. Seldom does any product amount to perfection, as much as you might hope. But door locks I can replace with less worry or expense than, say, replacing an engine.

I did again with controlled environment, and find out LR3 doesn't recognize DRO setting.

My previous observation about LR3 and DRO might be due to better curve responsive of LR3?

I had my custom LR3 setting loaded for each imports, maybe LR3 has better exposure controls on my default setting. It indeed looks more nature on HDR scenes with my eyes than LR2.

Sorry for confusion caused.
I didn't meant to imply that the image itself was impacted. What I was trying to get at was the extra information that the camera would store for later DRO correction would only be useful in a software package that could use that information - Sony supplied. I was implying if you are a RAW only shooter that uses Lightroom there is no reason to ever turn the DRO option on and therefore you should then never encounter this "problem".
There is a reason to turn on DRO even you are shoot raw only.

Sony write DRO on/off status into raw, and lightroom 3 sees it. if you have DRO as on, lightroom 3 will try to mimic sony's DRO curve by default when decode raw. No need for you to do it manually.

Ooops, with DRO off setting also produces sometimes the same problem enlarging ARW/RAW when display in camera.
So, the only solution seems shooting JPEG+RAW for now.

Okay, so I am still a bit confused with the thing.

And, sincerely, very-very disappointed with the Sony Support communication as I reported it two times but practically no answer or so much the worse they are ignoring it (as they react as question/problem answered/solved already - and no, it's not...but I have two CASE ID yet...ironic...)

Sorry for bringing up old thread, but I just got Pentax PK adapter from eBay.

Mounted Rokinon 85/1.4 lens using the adapater on my NEX-5. Took a picture, switched to review, enlarge and was greeted with garbage ;-)
Switching off DRO seems to fix the problem.

It is a rather annoying bug and I hope Sony will fix it soon. Especially that so many people use adapters with other lenses, since there is only two lenses for E-mount now.

Also, NEX-5 looks a bit funny mounted on Sigma 70-200/2.8. Yes, I think the camera is mounted on the lens not lens on the camera in this case ;-)

Don't apologise - this is serious software bug & Sony should have acknowledged it by now & promised that it will be fixed in the next firmware update. It is still a complete mystery to me why it was not picked up in prototype testing , I presume that they do test cameras ?

As far as bugs go, I hardly would call it serious, especially that there is a trivial work-around.

As for camera testing, it sucks that Sony did not catch it but I doubt at the time the camera firmware was developed there were any 3rd party adapters to test with. They probably tested with their adapter (which transmits proper lens info etc) quite extensively.

I fully expect them to fix that in a future firmware update though. If they won't then I would be more concerned.

So far there was only one firmware update closely after the camera release that probably did not include any bug fixes from bugs encountered in the field since lead times for fixing stuff like this is months.

Glad to see this here, I thought this might just be my camera.

I found the same issue "enlarging RAW files taken when using an adapter, sometimes they display corrupted, other times they are green/yellow."

I didn't notice if DRO on/off helped. But JPG mode did clear the issue. I am going to leave it on RAW + JPG too, and hope Sony fixes this small bug.

I noticed this problem for the first time today after using a Voigtlander VM adapter and the Nokton 40mm lens; until I read all of this I was certain my camera had suffered some sort of unknown trauma. I haven't tried comparing DRO-enabled shots with DRO-disabled shots, but hopefully disabling it will alleviate the problem for me.

crosses fingers and thinks about the impending firmware update

Sony would do well to acknowledge this problem & make a statement that it will be fixed in the NEXt firmware upgrade if only to cut down the number of unnecessary service phone calls generated by this issue & goodness knowns how many buyers return their cameras thinking that they are faulty ?
