Maybe its not so sad - maybe its a happy thing.
It seems the primary reason for buying a camera in the first place is
to enjoy photography. So maybe all the people who aren't here are
doing just that.
I'm not saying that the forum doesn't serve a purpose. Lots of people
write in for help with problems or advice about this and that. I used
to hang around a lot more before I bought my A2. But now that I have
it, I spend a good part of my free time using it. So maybe fewer posts
means that people aren't having many problems and are enjoying their
cameras. And that is not a sad thing.
What I do think I see here that sometimes seems sad to me is people
who seem to spend so much time on the forum that it makes me
wonder why they ever bought a camera in the first place. Some of
them even seem to have lots of cameras - making it even more of a
mystery.
I won't argue with anyone who says that the forum is also a form of
social interaction. It certainly is and people are entitled to that. Its
just that I'd prefer to interact with people on a face to face basis
and use the rest of my spare free time for taking and working with
pictures.
So maybe fewer posts is not such a sad thing.
I don't know how much KM watches this forum but my guess is there
won't be an A3 unless they are pretty convinced there is a good
market for it and that it can be sold for a profit against the rest of the
pro-summer and low end DSLR competition. I think there are a lot of
good inputs for them on this forum - but that still doesn't mean that
acting on them will produce a good selling profit making product. To
be successful, a product must bring a decent return on investment.
I'm sure a lot of the people on this forum longed out loud for many
of the features found in the A2 - but that didn't guarantee that it
would be a long running profitable product. I doubt KM will do an A3
if there aren't better sales prospects for it - and if they thought there
were, the A200 would have been an A3,

Sad.
Seems all serious photographers/enthusiasts have moved to the
Konica/Minolta SLR talk.
Which is doubly sad. Most of the posts there are "Gee, which cheap
lens should I buy with that bargain 5D, instead of the already
bargain 5D kit lens?"
This bodes ill for those of us lusting after a potential A3. Think
KM marketing isn't watching this forum? Think again.
. I'm stunned with the 28mm shots in RAW in RSE at 6Mp ISO64 from the A2 , they give the KM 5D and 7D more than a run for their money, the detail is phenominal - the A1 does the same to the D2HS, whole zoom range at 4Mp and ISO100 (ISO160 really) .. RSE in combination with the fast writing firmware (and AF improvements in the A1) really does breath new life into these cameras !
