After a recent shoot with my Z8, I could not see GPS data on playback. I used SnapBridge and know all my SnapBridge and camera settings were correct because the GPS information appeared in Lightroom. I had Location Data checked in the Playback Display Options. Playing around with the display options was more than confusing. I kept Location Data checked and turned on and off some of the other options. Sometimes the GPS information screen would appear, and other times it did not despite having Location Data checked on. It seems that Shooting Data has to be turned on. Also, the options seem somewhat repetitive: Exposure, Shooting Data, Overview, Basic Shooting Data. Can you explain the Playback Display Options for me, including why some options seem to be unavailable unless some others are also turned on?

Here's the manual section for what I believe you're asking about

Thank you. I looked at a number of sources including the Nikon manuals, but I was focused on Playback, not Photo Information, so I missed third. Thanks again.

It's helpful to have the graphics that show each screen option. But the manual still doesn't explain why some options are unavailable unless some other option is also selected.

The playback options menu and behavior is one of the things I've liked least about every Nikon I have owned. Its not that one can't get the info they want, its that its just confusing what is 'basic info' and what is 'shooting info' or whatever their current naming is...

As to answers as to why some options exist only with others, I don't think there is a satisfactory answer Nikon or anyone else can offer other than: thats just how it is. It feels like there are so many options to display or not that it's a no win situation for them: some grouping seems inevitable. And once they make those choices, some users will be OK with them and others not so much.

For what it's worth, it doesn't seem any better or worse than other brands I've owned.

Set it and forget it, is what I've done on every body I've owned. Not worth the time to ponder why it is the way it is.

Thanks. I agree with set it and forget it. I just had trouble getting the Location screen show up at all. Now I see it, so I won’t touch the settings again. Thanks again.
