Photoshop cannot open HEIF files

Photoshop can now open the 2 Sony HEIF files. I changed the HIF file extension to HEIF and that works and also tried it with HEIC and that also works. I am not sure why it wouldn't work earlier, but I have rebooted since then and now it is working. Also, the thumbnail for all 3 file extensions display in File Explorer and the Windows Photo app can open all of them.

I discovered today that LrC 13.2 can open files with the HIF extension, so does not require me to change the file extension to HEIF. But, Photoshop 25.5.0 will not open them unless I change the extension to HEIF. Great going there Adobe!

HEIC/HEIF is a container format, where different codecs can be used. Adobe has to chase the camera and app vendors and figure out what is used when, similar to RAW file support. SO none of this is a surprise.

Not sure who to cuss about this - Adobe, Sony, or whoever made up the HEIF format. But sounds like a mess.

Glad you've found ways to work with it, even if a bit of hassle.
