I've recently got this little fun device. It can obviously shot pictures in some kind of HDR-PQ mode which means HEIF (HIF) files with greater bitdepth than we're used to.
The problem is that Windows 11 don't want to touch these files at the time of writing, blank screens only when trying to view them. Photoshop Elements 2025 can't open them either. Paint.NET can but does only support 8-bit images at the moment.
Canons "Digital Photo Professional 4" can open them.
So I'm curious how people are doing this? I like the HDR files but they're not easy to manage, what can I do? Convert them to lossless TIF 16-bit would mean 70-100megabyte files which is not to prefer.
Are there any other userfriendly lossy fileformats supporting this bitdepth? The problem is however, HEIF are already lossy from the camera I think so I'll most likely loose detail compressing them again.
Ideas?
