Yes, Nikon should have mentioned this, but in all fairness, Nikon sugar coated its bitter pill with a significant firmware upgrade that greatly improved the P7000's main flaw, its serious inability to focus decently. It did so just as the P7100 was introduced, and this firmware upgrade improved the AF performance enough to make upgrading to the P7100 unnecessary for many P7000 owners.

To fair, credit should be given to B&H. Its website clearly spelled out that its aftermarket battery for the P7000 would only work with the older firmware :
Note! Only compatible with cameras using firmware version 1.0 or 1.1. Not compatible with cameras using firmware ver. 1.2

well, let me troll in here

the P7000 was extremely buggy and the P7100 was introduced and available for over THREE (3) months before Nikon saw fit to offer the firmware upgrade that did 'help' the af issues.

This second update was offered in early December and I believe was dated in mid Novemember while the new 'improved P7000" aka P7100 was available from late August.
I didn't realize that so much time had passed. My memory had it at weeks, not months. I guess that time passes more quickly when you're having fun, and since I didn't yet own the P7000 . . . :)

I might be the only person that felt a bit taken advantage of...but Nikon hasn't really seemed to give a rats *ss about customers for some time now.
Not only its customers. Nikon USA is using slash and burn tactics with its authorized dealers, trying to put an end to most of them. I've heard that at times Canon's support has been better and sometimes worse than Nikon's, and that in general, Nikon USA's support is worse than Nikon's support in the rest of the world. I think that it would still take more slippage to reach the depths of Fuji's support, although the Steves in NJ are pretty good, but Fuji JP appears to care less about its customers than most. The absolute worst support I've ever seen was from Kodak, but that was shortly before it went down for the third time.

I was interested in the P7700 but I am the proud owner of a Canon Powershot G15. I could not be more delighted with this Camera. Plz don't assume who are and who are not trolls.

Shot on an HTC ONE X that could actually focus. You can keep your P7700 hundred which in this same lighting condition could not focus. This is my one account, I was a previous S100 Owner. Just have a look at this beauty in all its glory. Still to this day, Nikon has done nothing but copied Canon because of their superiority in look, functionality and IQ. Nikon still lags behind but i'll let you relealize that when you have to send it back. Don't assume you know who is who on this forum. Buy a G15 !!!!

Congratulations. I'm sure that you'll be happy with the G15. But I and you and everyone else are free to assume who are and who are not behaving as trolls. You may not like hearing some opinions about who they might be, but in this case I think that you're mainly annoyed because you share some of the troll's feelings. And I'm not saying that you shouldn't, because some of his points were valid, but you don't have to be a troll to know one.

You're rapidly becoming more and more like he whose name/description must not be uttered.

I share opinions based on experience and that is it. TO me, it was a very rushed together camera, while Nikon having the right intent with the release of the P series( and Nikon 1 ) they just need to go a way further to getting up to snuff with the rest. I just don't like being accused of being a troll. I am rather new to photography and by these forums, discouraging and all, I feel most ppl are all tech and no images. Most would rather pixel peep and get hard on's over this and that than images and critique. It is quite sad that it is this way and that alot of the noobs dont even bother to share there feelings, and that what they have to say has no merit and the guys with the high post counts are sort of the judge and the jury. This is the way that I see it. Maybe you can prove me wrong but as of now, I just don't see it any other way.

If you check the replies in this thread you'll see that the person being accused of being a troll was ShootTheMessenger, not you. In fact, in one reply you wrote "How do you know He is a troll? Is this what these forums have become? We have to agree with the guys who have 10k plus posts to ***** about a camera we have owned." So yes, you admitted that "He" was the troll and then proceeded to childishly continue bitching, with your irrelevant dredging up of the number of posts that I've made.

The childishness continues, and you're going out of your way to demonstrate that you may well be, after all, the person that created the DPR ShootTheMessenger ID. Keep replying like this and you may attract the attention of our new moderators.

I don't have to even try to prove you wrong. You're doing an excellent job of it all by yourself. Somehow it's completely failed to register that I agree with some of the sentiment expressed about the P7000's AF problems and the flawed firmware fix. I've even criticized Nikon USA about other things. What I'm mostly critical of is the way ShootTheMessenger, and you have chosen to "share your feelings", not in reasonable ways but with childish, over-the-top diatribes and now with your juvenile, vulgar language.

This camera has been a total disappointment to me, and I got it when it was pretty new and paid $450 for it. The firmware upgrade made a very slight improvment in daylight speed, but it's horrible for trying to shoot low light, which I use it for often. When it hits the mark, it does take beautiful photos though, I'll give it that. I just misses way too often because it runs like a snail. The exposure compensation dial is also very poorly desinged. It's nice having easy access to it, but the way it's situated makes it very easy to accidently change the exposure without realizing iit. Wishing I could trade this in for a Canon G15, but I would really feel guitly selling this or trading it to anyone. I wanted a really good quality P&S for when I didn't have my DSLR with me. Totally let down by Nikon on this camera.
