Rather than what hasn't changed, I've set this thread up for those who would like to focus on the positives. Would the team here care to help list all the differences between OM5.2, OM5.1 and EM5.3 as they are discovered? OMS will have told us about some but the eagle eyes here are likely to spot others they haven't mentioned....

So far, I've got:
  • 3 different colour schemes
  • New (OM-1-style) menu system
  • USB-C charging
  • Possible changes to the tripod socket / battery cover design?
  • Night vision mode
Are any of the following new / improved?
  • IBIS
  • Live composite
  • Hi-Res modes
  • In camera focus stacking
What have I missed?

Night vision mode is not a new feature, just the old live view boost renamed in the new menu system.

OM-5.1 manual, old system menu.
OM-5.1 manual, old system menu.

OM-3 manual, new system menu.
OM-3 manual, new system menu.

I doubt that, the power pin is still present on the hot shoe. The compatibility pages likely hasn't updated yet.

I stand corrected, OMS indeed say they are explicitly incompatible. I wonder why...

I don't any possible explanation for this - only thing I can think about is that they are launching a new small flash and they have to fabricate some need as the market is inundated by tons of spare FMLM3. Every olympus shooter probably already have 2 in their drawers (I do).

Olympus did the same with the E-M10 IV. The power pin is present on the hot-shoe but apparently not connected.

The grip seems to be inspired by the EM-10 IV’s too:

What are you basing the changes to the tripod socket on? I specifically asked OM System if they changed it and they told me no.

As for the high-res modes and focus stacking, I haven't noticed any difference!

The back button has been renamed from AEL/AFL to AF-On, which makes more sense.

We lost the shiny silver dials on the silver version. But to be fair, the on/off switch was already black on the original OM-5 and it doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would.

Ugh. I love my LM3; such a useful little flash. Why the heck would they do that?!

I loved the EM5 II (mine died), but looks like I'll just be sticking with my EM1 III as much as I would like a smaller body sometimes. I might consider an OM3 someday, but only if it gets a big price drop.

The OM-5 mark II changed the bluetooth shutter release to RM-WR2 and not the deprecated RM-WR1 that the OM-5 mark I supported.

I hope that OM will finally make the RM-WR2 actually available for purchase so that I can buy one to use with my OM-3. I bought my OM-3 in March, and I've been checking the OM USA site, B&H, Adorama, and my local brick & mortar store (Hunts in Melrose, MA, USA) every few days, to see if it is available. Adorama is saying that they expect to ship it on June 22nd, and the others don't list an expected ship date.

Both the OM-3 and the OM-5 mark II say that they don't support the RM-WR1 in their manuals. I did try to pair my OM-3 with the RM-WR1 I use with my OM-1 mark I, and it doesn't pair up.

The OM-5 mark II does still have the 2.5mm port to allow it to use a wired shutter release like the RM-CB2.

Isn't this a new feature?

If you look at picture #9, the hot-shoe has the extra contact pin for providing the power to the FL-LM3. I suspect it still supports the FL-LM3, but since it is no longer in the catalog, they removed it from the documentation (just like the cameras support the FL-600R, FL-300R, FL-36R, or FL-50R flashes, but those are no longer being made).

I did check the OM-1 mark II and OM-3 documentation, and the FL-LM3 is still listed as being supported.

If you don't need the bounce aspect of the FL-LM3, look at the:
  • Godox iT30Pro O TTL Mini Flash for Olympus and Panasonic (black or silver)
The IT30Pro flash has a guide number of 15m compared to the FL-LM3 guide number of 9m. The IT30Pro flash has a built-in battery that needs to be charged via USB instead of the FL-LM3 that draws power from the camera.

I find the FL-LM3 to be a nice little flash that is easy to carry with my OM/Olympus cameras, attaching it to my camera strap. However, in terms of form factor, I preferred the smallness of the earlier FL-LM2/FL-LM1 flashes (but occasionally I do use the FL-LM3 ability to bounce light).

Since OMDS has officially stated, your speculation has lower priority.

A pin? A metal piece with no connection to the proper circuitry can exist.
I suspect it still supports the FL-LM3, but since it is no longer in the catalog, they removed it from the documentation (just like the cameras support the FL-600R, FL-300R, FL-36R, or FL-50R flashes, but those are no longer being made).

The current compatibility table still lists the FL-300R and FL-600R, which were discontinued years ago, and it states that "FL-LM3 is incompatible with the OM-5Ⅱ".

I did check the OM-1 mark II and OM-3 documentation, and the FL-LM3 is still listed as being supported.
OMDS Japan is still selling the FL-LM3 and they provided this table too. No place for false hope.

Not really. At least on the OM-3, the CP button is a faster way to enable the computational photography features than selecting the items in the menu separately. The CP features are:
  • High resolution
  • Focus stacking
  • ND filter simulation
  • HDR1/HDR2 (and)
  • Multiple exposure
With the exception of hand held high resolution mode, I believe the OM-5 supported all of the CP modes that the OM-5 mark II does. The OM-5 mark I did support tripod high resolution mode.

Hmm, none of the manuals that I checked list which lenses can be used for focus stacking. Instead, you have to go to the web site to see what lenses are supported. I imagine the same lenses are supported.
