Next 4 Alphas

It took some time, but now it's there: the A700 replacement - and what a beauty it is on the outside, and a beast on the inside.

All these 4 cameras will replace A550. There is no A700 replacement among them.
Sony's first, fullblown, head-on attack at the Canon 550D segment...

Sounds promising...

Does translucent mean pellicle???

Good to see Sony is trying to gaining momentum and attack Canikon. I'm not sure having so many models and different models is a good thing. The pellix camera allows proper autofocus with video then it has an advantage over other brands, however AF video on a camera is just a small aspect and hardly a deal breaker for buyers who are probably unaware of the disadvantage of present DSLR cameras.

Not yet, these 4 cameras are just a taste of what Sony will give us when the A7xx arrives later :)

I love what Sony are doing. Launching 4 cameras to tackle a very popular segment.
2 different approaches, at 2 different price levels = 4 cameras.

If anything they are showing they are serious about DSLRs.

I am very excited about seeing what the A7xx will bring. I am glad Sony didn't do a rush job on it.

what must be the A700 next generation

Indeed. it does seem like the larger of the two bodies shown at the beginning of the year. Mistake on SAR's part then.

I wonder how good the EVF is.

My speculations:

Pro:
  • Bright viewfinder even when the light is low
  • Quick focus check by magnifying the central part of the image (if featured)
Con:
  • Limited dynamic range (compared to what we are used to)?
  • Resolution?
  • Update rate?

EVF specs look good (resolution, magnification, coverage).

I too hope for some kind of Live MF check zoom implementation.

It is great that Sony are bringing out different models that address as many differing needs as possible.
