Moire/Maze Artifacts fixed !

After reading many forum threads on the D70, I've got mine on order. I too am concerned for the artifacts which seem to be coming from the in-camera processing, and I was thinking of trying to work with RAW, though I've no experience there. I have 1 yr old PS but can't afford to upgrade for a long time, and I would prefer not to to have to spend $99 on Bibble, though it is clearly worth it. If anyone has suggestions for an economical and effective way of converting the raw output, I would much appreciate it. If the packaged Nikon software will suffice, I can stick with that, but I noticed some rumblings about it. Thanks!

Don't know if this will help you Theresa, but the new bibble will be available in two editions, a higher end version that will cost more than the current version, and a lower end version that will be signifigantly cheaper then the current version.

The lower end version will lack some of the features of the higher end version, but those will mostly be geared to pros or serious amateurs who pocess gazillions of images.

essentially the JPEG shooting on the D70 is worthless, which is a bummer. You shouldn't HAVE to shoot in raw just to get acceptable photos... Not all of us can afford a bunch of 4GB memory cards after all.

If I understand correctly, this is very good news.

are free from the maze pattern, then it's apparently a problem in
the Nikon algorithms, either in-camera or in NC.

Actually I suspected this, because there was a similar problem of
Adobe Camera RAW before on Canon RAW files.

Now the future is MUCH brighter for the D70. In May, Phase One will
introduce a new, D70-compatible version of C1 DSLR, which is my
favourite software from my earlier photoshoots with D100 and
Drebel. And eventually Nikon may correct their software as well.

The solution: always shoot in RAW, time will tell you did the right
thing.

I pity you guys using P4s ;( If I remember correctly (been out
of it for awhile) the P4 chips had some FP registers taken out
that's why it's not good for these type of processing.

My little P4-2.8 with gig of RDRAM does a fine job on this type of
"stuff". Fast and processes it quickly.

You can buy a Dell after rebate P4-2.6 for $299, why bother
overclocking. They are so fast at this point the little extra is
not worth the hassle.

Highly likely that at that price this is a P4 Celeron chips. Don't be fooled by the clock speed. These are the slowest chips out there right now.

Under no circumstance get a P4 celeron...

In the second example the bad file has 3008*2000 resolution
The bibble-file has 3032*2006. And i see the chage in White Balance.
It's a bit strange

Eric Hyman of Bibble got my NEF's and ran them through a development
version of Bibble with good results
