I would try to gently slot the header back in before attempting to split the case open. If you have to split it open I would use a tiny amount of super glue around the edges rather than tape. Tape may cause the card not to fit in your card reader.

If SD card from one of the major mfg may want to try contacting them.

Do a search "SD Card broken"; e.g. HERE for some articles.

BTW by the wear on the SD card contacts looks like its be used for awhile. May want to consider replacing a card within a period of time—they're rather inexpensive now days. ;-)

Good Luck!

I followed arrow501’s advice and pried the end of the card open just enough to slip the contacts header back into place. After centering the contacts in their openings, the two halves of the case closed as normal.

I then used a separate card reader where only 1/3 of the card gets inserted and was able to successfully copy the files to my PC.

My curiosity got the best of me so I split the card apart half expecting to find a micro-SD card inside but to my surprise it was empty!

Haha, why not now the pics are safe. That is a surprise! I'd have expected some electronics to be in there too.

There is. But it doesn't take up more space than the PCB with the contacts. The actual chip will either be in a partial-depth cutout of the PCB or on the dark side covered by whatever material is having the print on top.

I also thought there was "something" inside the case that the visible contacts were connected to; hence why I provided the reply I did.
Found a video that showed how to recover data from standard SD Card with broken case.

In the video person took apart the SD Card and first time I saw the components of a SD Card.

Person trace another SD Card onto some heavy paper, cut/ trim to match the SD Card case and glued the SC Card contacts/ PCB to the paper; then inserted in a card reader to transfer images to computer.
