LX5 firmware update is here

I think it might prove tricky to format the SD card in the camera (step 4) after having just taken both the battery and the card out (step 2) and before having inserted it back (step 7). :)

I don't get why Panasonic is telling everyone to use a card reader, unless they are selling card readers. So you can just connect the camera directly to the iMac via USB, the same as you would downloading files, and drag (copy) the .bin file over to the mounted camera root? It couldn't be simpler. This works, right?
Just verifying that the USB connection method to updating to v. 2.0 absolutely works. Much simpler than the card reader nonsense, took less than 10 seconds. Easy Peasy, Extra Cheesy.

Hi,

I'm still having problems updating the firmware. I checked my camera and it has version 1.0

I downloaded the LX5_V20. exe which opened up into LX5_V20.bin. I noticed that the bin file only has 15.5mb rather than the 16.something mb. I don't know if this is an error downloading?

I also formatted the SDHC card in the camera. The bin file is on the top of the other folders.

I inserted the SDHC card into the canera, pressed play. The camera says No Picture to Display. I turned it off and turned it back on again. Still the same.

I started over again. Tried using the USB to transfer over the bin file. No go...
starting to get kinda angry...

Please help!

Thank you.

The exact size of LX5__V20.bin file is 16254464 bytes.
MD5 sum is: f297632e2a4798f9a33908455df1c5f5.

This is how I update all my firmware on panasonic lens and cameras and never fails. I realise some of the points I say you will already be aware of.anyway here you go........

1) format card/remove and put in pc by whatever means you use
2) download file…..do not open
3) send all the file via my computer to sd card

4) go into my computer and open sd drive, then open up the file you sent v2.0 you will see that it is a v20bin file
5) remove card
6) make sure the camera battery is full charged
7) insert card into camera and switch on.
8) Press the green button at the back of the camera that you use to display pics

9) It will then ask you if you want to version up.press yes then wait for the download
10) ……..There you go……enjoy

My goodness, I did all that about twenty times today. Finally, I don't know what I did differently but after turning the camera on and off several times...it finally worked!

I still don't know what I was doing wrong those 19 times earlier but I'm just glad it's all over and done with!

Help,please!

I dont have a usable card reader on my comp so I am trying to transfer to camera via usb cable. The .bin file has dqwnloaded and extracted but I get a "write-protected" file error message when I try to copy and paste into my sd card drive.

Am I making sense, please?

Mike

I have never had to update with the cable but try this
download the update file.........do no extract
right click and send the full file to your SD card.....not copy and paste

open my computer and find your card with the file on.... then extract the file within the card........ie.bin file.

switch camera on and press the green arrow button........it should show firmare update with instructions.
Dave........hope this helps

Thanks for your help David,

I've tried every which way and it seems I need a usb read/write device as stated in panny's instructions. I'd mistakenly assumed their usb ref was the one supplied with the lx5.
Thanks again
All the best

Mike
