Panasonic did a great job on the LX3:
wide-angle ,wide aperture ,OK high ISO ,and great design.

To make it the perfect wide-angle P&S ,they need to release a new firmware, in order to solve color issues (I hope that it can be fixed with new firmware).

Here are things they should correct:

First and foremost - fix to accurate colors:

It can be done by applying different default color curves ,or colour profile (like Nikon D300 have),and may leave the old-color profile as an option (as one of the "film" options).

Second,if you can ,add the florescent option (at least one) to WB options, and ,if possible ,an option to a flash WB (or auto-WB compensation when using internal flash).

3rd - Since pictures tend to get "under exposed" ,change default exposure to higher (however - not mandatory).

Seriously, I've been considering buying this camera, but I'm put-off by inaccurate colors.

I hope Panasonic will release this new firmware, possibly because it will make it worth for them (sales).

Thanks Pana

also please add + -2 ev for auto bracketing.

what about a leica one? it is 150 euro more in price in the local store, which including a nice leather case and two year warranty!

The color issue - basically make their film modes more sport- on color for colors that are supposed to look like their prime color. Blue, Green, Yellow, Red. Red in particular.

Ok to hyper saturate the green in Dynamic or Vibrant, not ok in Standard.

If this is done, this camera scores higher than it already does in my book. Panasonic has been very attentive of firmware releases for their DLSR's, let's hope they can do that for the pro-marketed LX3.

Andreas Feininger (1906-1999) 'Photographers — idiots, of which there are
so many — say, “Oh, if only I had a Nikon or a Leica, I could make great
photographs.” That’s the dumbest thing I ever heard in my life. It’s
nothing but a matter of seeing, and thinking, and interest. That’s what
makes a good photograph.'

Am I a man of no taste if I prefer the Panny design over Leica?
Indeed - the Leica version is much less useful design
as a photography tool.

Coming back to things which need fixing, the only thing which
really bothers me is the AF tracking system, which always
seems to do a complete AF cycle before shooting, although
the benefit of the system should be not needing to do this.

Having read your posts I was worried that I'd have similar concerns when my camera arrived. But I find that, esp. with the Nostalgic color mode, the greens are what my eye sees in "real life," and the reds as well (no magenta hue). I posted some images for color test here http://www.pbase.com/lizzoob/images_from_the_panasonic_lx3 . Someone suggested that maybe they (someone at Panasonic) accidentally swapped color profile names!

Right now my biggest concern about this camera is the LCD screen in bright sun. I'm still experimenting with LCD settings, but if I can't see the screen on a sunny day (today it's too cloudy to test again), I may well send the camera back to J&R.

That is so weird!! I never put in a password for that gallery, and I had the impression that others reading another thread I'd posted about it had been able to view it already.

Anyway, I went and removed the password that some gremlin must have put there.

I'd like to see your pics, but they are password protected.
