I was using the G9 today and all was working as expected but when I again opened the display to review the most recent photos it was blank. Looking through the eyepiece works. I tried the simple things like taking out the battery and the memory cards for a few seconds but that didn't help.

Has anyone ever had this problem and what did you do? If you think it involves sending the camera in to Panasonic, any rough idea what it would cost and how long it would take?

Thanks.

Perhaps a stupid question on my part, but did you check the LVF/Fn3 button to the left of the EVF, to make sure you didn't inadvertently turn of the LCD panel?

Not stupid at all - that was it. Thank you !!!

I'm curious. Why would someone want to use this button instead of just not opening the LCD panel in the first place?

Wooooooooo! :-D

I've had to use that button a few times over the years - very occasionally the eye sensor doesn't "catch" my movement toward/away from the EVF, and when the sensor is obscured by precipitation.

Basically, to disable the sensor and fix the view to either EVF or rear LCD. I use it when I'm shooting waist-level shots and bracing the camera close for maximum stability; in that situation the sensor will trigger to switch to the EVF so I disable it.

Or when I put the rain sleeve on which will trigger the unwanted switching on of evf or LCD at the wrong time by the eye sensor ... :-)
