If this is posted in the wrong forum, please advise and I can re-post elsewhere.
As the Lumix DMC-GM5 is aging, folks are encountering minor issues with them. The internal battery (that keeps the clock running) finally giving out is typical for a camera over 10 years old (there's a great post in this forum that details replacing it, and I have a YouTube video showing the deconstruction and battery replacement on the DMC-GM1 here ).
I ran into a minor problem with a GM5 I'd bought from Japan this year. The problem was that the soft button location on the top, left-hand side of the display didn't seem to respond. When I refer to "soft buttons," I'm talking about software-controlled buttons on the display. SCN, IA, and filters like Toy Pop (TOYP) display there and can be touched to change their settings.
I happen to have two GM5 cameras -- one in "Service Mode" from Japan, and another I purchased for the Western market from Australia. The latter one is a gem -- a beautiful red-on-black. The Japanese GM5 quite spiffy as well, and is green-on-silver.
So, the red GM5 works perfectly. The soft buttons for SCN, etc. do exactly what they should -- they return to the menu selection. The green GM5 soft buttons were unresponsive.
So, I bought a replacement touch display (resorting to eBay for parts these days is de regur), and while skeptical, I went ahead and replaced it. I thoroughly expected it was a software issue possibly having to do with the camera being in service mode; but to my surprise the new display worked like a champ.
You can watch the video here , if it's something that might help you. Also, I provide a link to the eBay listing that was current at the time of publication.
