If you've spent time in the woods you would know that other then
seeing a grizzly bear your common black bear is not a threat. They
are like any other animal,they want to get away just like any other
animal would.

this really irritates me this attitude. You are a product of
hollywood and the silly way they portray threats from animals in
the wild. I've seen a total of about 7 bears in the wild and you
really have to bend over backwards to get one to attack you besides
I'm talking about taking a photo of them with a tele photo lens at
a distance ,god keep watching the hollywood movies and being
scared of things in the woods !!!

I'm sorry, that statement shows how little you know about bears. If

you lived around bears like I do, then you would know, that you
show the Black Bear, the same respect that you would a Grizzly.

Seven whole bears, WOW, that makes you quite the expert. For your
info, more people have been killed and eaten by Black Bears in
Alaska, than by Grizzlies. So which city did you say you lived in.

Got that right, Daniella! Any sane person would just get out of there! But I guess BillyBoy would find this to be a rare photo op unlike normal, rational, sane people.

I saw some bald eagles very brevely in Lessen Volcanic
mountain...even if i had wings i would not have been able to catch
them as they glided very kickly. As for bears..i was fortunate
enough to get face to face with them twice and not being
attacked...although the male did slap his big paw and growled at
me...This is no time to start thinking about composition and
lighting and camera settings...

Your collections of shots of animals in zoos is the best I can recall seeing. 10/10 and that's the direct opposite of boring. Full applause from here.

I would be very glad if you would take time to take a look at my
pictures of captivated animals (I prefer them being in the wild,
but that's not my choise) and tell me how boring you find these an
a scale from 1 to 10.

Billy expressed his own personal feelings about photography. I share those feelings.

What defines the difference between a snapshot and a photo? I have posted images I am very proud of out here, and recieved praise (occasionally). But my truth is this:

I look at the work of others and I feel what I have are a bunch of snapshots. I hope one day I will get the same feeling looking at my own work as I do looking at the work of so many of the regulars out here. What I end up doing is not having fun. I am fixated on not shooting a snapshot, but creating a photograph that says something.

This is worse since digital. I used to bulk load TRI-X, 72 exposures in a can, shoot 'em off at 3fps in my A-1. I would shoot 300 pics in a day, develop the film, print proof sheets, say it's all junk and not keep anything. Now, with digital, I dont even have to process. Viewing, and deleting, 400 images takes nothing more than a click or two. You would think this was the passion of an artist at work, but no... Snapshots I am good at, photographs are a different story. Sometimes I get lucky. ( A blind man points a shotgun at a fence lined up with birds and he will get one or two)
I am not a perfectionist, I simply dont like what comes out of the camera.

I go out with my camera thinking exactly what Billy expressed. Out of 3000 images shot with my C-700 I have kept 90. I am getting better, at least I have some.

So how about the photographer who shoots a bunch of pics and likes them. This is the person who goes out and just has fun. Who gets more pleasure out of the hobby?

Although my personal truth aligns perfectly with what was said by Billy this should not imply that I don't enjoy looking at all the pictures posted here. I do. And yes, I have cow pictures posted on Pbase. Ducks too...

this is getting funny Julio, for the 6 th time I posted about taking photos of bears at long distances with a telephoto lens. Check this out,The facts are not on your side Julio. Jumping in front of a bear at a distance of 6 feet is not something I would do either.

Did I not specifically point you in the direction of the first post that started this thread? I don't think there's any mention of how to act, or, react, to bears in the wild in that one.

Is this really a challenge and is it interesting to take photos of
fenced in animals ? How about getting the hiking shoes out and take
some pictures of "wild" animals that are seldom seen. These
domesticsted animals have all been photographed to death and are
quite boring to me. What do you think ?
