latest Photoshop cannot open .cr3 raw file from R6 Mk II

I have auto updates its 26.5 and the latest raw converter that comes with it.

having been on the blower to Adobe 25 or so times since instal to get it all set up as it should be, I am with what is needed.

Today they tell me ITS A KNOWN FAULT ! and revert me to 25.0
I have 26.4, and camera raw version 17.2 (and have no trouble opening raw files from my R6mkII).

There's no updates available for me, and the latest release seems to be 26.4. I wonder how you got 26.5... are you on some kind of beta program?
I have 26.5 and I don't think it's beta. I typically avoid beta.
There was an update 2 days ago but I thought it was just the CC install app update. That often happens and it tells you that is the update you are getting. Maybe P updated as well.

I'm using Mac. Windows issues?
Then again this is still confusing because they figured out it was a camera issue. Through the process of trying to figure it out other things got messed up.

Just opened it in ACR and PS and no problems.

Hi,

I am with latest Photoshop (and win 10 64bit pro), and it cannot open .cr3 files taken on a hired R6 Mk II

I seleceted 20 pics to open into raw, and instead got

'could not open the file due to a program error.

I try for one and same thing.

what is going on.

I am about to do a serious 3 day photoshoot and need to see the test shots, else £600 of gear and a trip of 5hrs is down the pan.

I dont believe this !

I also had to install from microsoft shop a thing that would show thumbs for .cr3, it now does, BUT HELLS BELLS ITS SLOW, each one appears half a second to so apart, takes ages.

What rubbish is all this ?

used to .Cr2 and functionality.

DBenz.
You may just have to upgrade the version of Camera Raw you have installed with PS. If you have not updated it in a long time, or since you installed PS, likely that is why you cannot open the CR3 files.

You should not have to install anything to see Thumbs. For me It just works. However, MS is not known to be ideal. I would suggest using a dedicated image viewer. You can use Acdsee or Faststone (free) and they generate the thumbs fairly quickly.

What version of Photoshop are you running? The latest version is version 26, also called "Photoshop 25." The oldest version to open R6 Mark II files is Photoshop 24.
Let me take a wild guess. The OP has CS6. The last time it has an update was in 2018.
But I guess we will never know. The OP pops up to whine then disappears.....
Hi,

I then went to bed then had breakfast then tried to get metashape to process some test shots, failing badly on skin areas, then maths to see I need 17 batteries for a photoshoot with this R6 THING...as 400 pics per battery is BAD. no youtube review mentioned you need loads of them compared to 1 for a dSLR such as a 70D. (there again youtube reviews often useless, are not always mentioning everything one needs to know. )
I am wondering why on earth you decided to rent a completely foreign camera (to you) with a very limited amount of time to learn how to use it, and clearly without much research before renting ? A VERY common theme in this R forum is how big the learning curve to move from DSLR to mirrorless is - in most cases it is NOT a 5 day exercise, and it seemingly (as expected) causing a lot of stress for you. Why didn't you stick with your 70D for this shoot, or even rent a DSLR "upgrade" like 5D iv - it may have been easier for you.

For the record, you should completely ignore the CIPA test spec for this camera - unless you are going to be fluffing around and examining each shot at length after taking it.

So you are planning 6800 shots, which I might assume may include some bursts (simply because taking 6800 single shots of different subjects is likely to be a fairly time consuming exercise). If taking lots of short bursts and mostly not reviewing the shots on the camera's LCD, I might suggest that you are more likely to get around 1500-2000 shots per battery, not 400.

I have a little R8, which takes the much smaller LP-E17 battery, and it is "rated" for around 250 shots, and walking around a big zoo for 6 hours, I took about 4500 shots, and was on my second battery - and yes, there was some decent bursts in that and very little reviewing going on.

So, no, it seems unlikely that you will need 17 batteries.
then back here to see replies, . so give me a chance !

then we discover its also doing it, then we discover its a corrupt few .cr3 files made by this hire camera, and I have 11000 shots to do in one day, oh wonderful.

so now it does open .cr3

as for 'its a known fault' is it ?

I also have CS6 and hang onto it as its been 3 months of Pshop hell as what worked fine needs fixing in 26.5 as someone meddled with tools and settings.

The other day their update wiped out my colour settings and I was on sRGB and other things, and saw both RGB and sRGB at top of an image ! so I gave them merry hell as thats simply not on !

My current record is 9 batteries in a day (achieved yesterday).

Turn off Bluetooth, turn on flight mode. Set both screen brightness according (they both use a significant proportion of the power).

Have spare batteries

Have a charger

Perhaps run from a power bank.
