Is it still possible to remote control an A7 Mk1 with the new app?

Basically the title.

Is it possible to connect my phone to the new "Imaging Edge Mobile", because I have some trouble doing it. When I connect via ssid and password to the sony a7 network over my phone, it just says there is no connection and the connecting spins indefinitely on my camera.

I am not that interested in transferring the pictures, it's faster to do it via cable or card reader, but I would love to have the remote control option.

If anyone has any advice or a vid to help me out, I would appreciate it immensely...

I was able to connect the remote app without issue on my A7II I use the QR code option which I see is not supposed to work according to the page SQLguy linked so maybe I misunderstood the question? I can transfer jpg with the wifi connection. I haven't tried NFC connect though.

Yes I had it working OK (since updated to A7rii). It was a bit fiddly - you can either use NFC which I could only get working with one phone but not another (it was very convenient when it worked), or if you use wifi make sure you manually go to your phone wifi and connect to the camera hotspot first. Then the app should spring into life.

To control an original (Mk.1) a7 with a smartphone running the latest version of Imaging Edge Mobile, you might need to install (or upgrade to) the latest version of the "Smart Remote Control" app on the a7 from the Playmemories app store.

Edit:

Oops. Saw too late that SQLGuy already provided you with an identical answer.

You need to read the legend and click the details. The ! means "works with limitations." The limitation, in the case of QR code on the A7II is that you have to update the smart remote app.

I have the same problem you describe here. I persumed it was a phone issue and it looks like it is, seeing I have a Huawei p20pro.

So if I want to say transfer images to my phone I have to;
  • Choose send to phone on camera
  • Choose to connect through SSID/password (NFC or QR won't work)
  • Go to wifi settings on my phone and connect to camera
  • Open imaging app and press Start
Then I can transfer images. Not exactly a one step process I was somewhat used to (NFC - app opens, or press dedicated button - start the app: good to go.

I was wondering how the workflow for transferring / remote control is using NFC for supported phones?

Yup I had exactly the same problem on a Google Pixel 2XL.
