I am looking for an infrared filter. Where can I get one at which price? Has anybody experience with a 6900Z using an infrared filter?--Joachim

Joachim,
You can buy them at http://www.2filters.com . Do a search in this forum
(and other forums for that matter) and you'll find lots of
information regarding how to use infrared filters on a digital
camera.

Dan

I bought my Hoya R72 infrared filter at a local camera store for
about $30.

'Freedom of speech is wonderful - right up there with the
freedom not to listen.'
Thank you Long, the reason I shoot them in color and convert in software as opposed to shooting in the cameras black and white mode is that I feel I get better tones by using the channel mixer in Photoshop. Also it leaves my options open. Yes, these were taken during the day. Alot of people confuse infrared photography (it's actually near infrared) with night vision...Long T. Nguyen wrote:
Bob,
Extraordinary pictures. Thanks for sharing. Please allow me to ask
a "dumb" question. I'm relatively new to digital photography and
do it just for fun. I always thought Infrared meant being able to
focus in the dark. Obviously you've proven me wrong.
Your pictures were taken in color and then used software/filter to
turn them into black and white. How does this differ from taking
regular black and white photos?
Also, were the pictures actually taken during the day?
The first 4 photos with the reddish hue were taken in color. This is what they look like out of the camera before I convert them to black and white. The one that says blended in Photoshop was 2 images taken on a tripod, one with the filter and the other without the filter. I blended them in Photoshop and lessened the opacity to 30% and added some solarization filter effects.mcorrea wrote:
Bob,
Are the color photos on your pbase pages straight out of the camera
colors? They say something like color and B&W blende in PS. I
wonder what the pics look like in color right out of the camera.

Actually, it is the ultra violet (or UV) filter that does that... you would never want an infrared filter on your camera all the time because the infrared is a specialized filter for just this sort of black and white style of photography.I believe you have to geet the adapter ring to use filters.
Unfortunately, it results in a semi-permanent extension on the
camera... if you don't mind. Infrared filters do filter out some
non-essential infrared rays from sunlight,
--www.lizawallis.comwww.lizawallis.com/photographyand some people think
they make a difference. They also act as great protection to your
lens.
Other filters are polaroid, blue (for snow pictures), yellow
(enhances autumn pictures) etc. Some people think you don't need
filters with digital photography, as you can use your editing
software to do the enhancing later.
Bottom line.... it's strictly a personal preference.

I have got to disagree with you on this one Jack... the Infrared from http://www.glickcreative.com is far superior and gives you much more control for 50 cents less. It is an amazing plugin. Miranda does great work, but this, to my mind is not one of his better ones.

I just bought the non-demo version of the IR filter and the denoise
filter. I'll report back to the group with my impressions.
Liza, I bought these based on your glowing recommendations so if
they suck, you're in big trouble!

Hey Jack.... I never said anything about the denoise filter so if that one sucks then you are on your own. If you are disappointed by the Infrared plugin then I am going to strongly urge you to get glasses.... it is an awesome tool.I just bought the non-demo version of the IR filter and the denoise
