I replaced my old i mac from 2019 and have the mac studio installed.

I use a sony express B / XQD reader and see that the import from the reader into my external samsung 2 T T9 SSD is so slow compared to my older set up (imported from the same card reader to a samununsg 1/2 T samsung T5)

What can I do ?

The T9 SSD is formatted and is see no difference when plugging the card reader into USB A or thunderbolt slot.

Thanks

I'd first check each device (reader with several different cards, disks) with Blackmagick Disk Speed Test application to find which is concerned.

Also ensure that the card reader AND the disk are connected to/with all thunderbolt/USB-C plugs/cables chains, not with any USB type A plug/cable somewhere in between (avoid adapters, use USB type C/Thunderbolt only cables and plugs, all genuine if possible).

As a matter of fact, I went from T5 to T9 last year and the latter is way faster, so may not be the disk at least (or should be a copy concern then in your case).

Also, If it can help, describe what you use to "import" (application , process ?), what you mean exactly by "slow" (numbers), and the way you formatted the disk ?

This is all great advice - test each component separately (Blackmagick or Aja System Test Light are good options). It could be card, card reader, cable, SSD or the method used to import. You've got to narrow it down.

Also did you swap cables during the upgrade. Not all compatinle looking cables run data at higher speeds.

Meanwhile the issue is solved by resetting the photo app !

Thanks for feedback... kind of sad that just an app settings have this kind of influence on hardware features but also sadly, quite common.

Did you happen to know which setting(s) was involved in the the degradation of transfer speed ?

No , the IT support who delivered the new mac was surprised.

I see... if app settings were restored from a previous backup (Time Machine) of/or a previous system/app version from your old Mac, it is also likely that some settings were simply incorrectly ported.

Also, IT support services are meant (encouraged? :D ) to be surprised, even by common issues :D
