As it happens to my A7CM2
https://helpguide.sony.net/ilc/2440/v1/en/contents/211h_about_eye_af.html
All Sony newer camera switch to full screen when shooting video with subject detection
Which leads me to the question if I have two potential subject in the frame: i.e. two deer fighting, a flock of birds, multiple cats I have no control on what the camera is choosing to focus in video mode
When it comes to tracking
The functionality is essentially unchanged from the original A1 A7 IV all the way to newer models in movie mode you need to touch the display to start tracking what you want
If I compare how my Panasonic GH7 operates this camera tracking is essentially not useable however using standard subject detection I am not forced to use the whole screen, using a small explandable area I can choose where to focus in the frame in both photo and video and this ensures I am staying on the subject I choose I can also move the target area while shooting with ths joystick
Ideally a combination of both would be cool where you can choose the subject and then start tracking and still move it like it happens in still mode
After all this marketing hype about improved Autofocus in the newer models I am not really so impressed it seems pretty basic and really only worthwhile when you have a clear single subject in the frame, but that scenario would work anyway regardless of sophisticated subject detection except the camera would (maybe) focus on the eyes
