How to make DPReview work again in IE

It is a recent phenonemon, and others report it also. I haven't noticed it on any other websites.

Blockbuster ad is now gone.
What about other Flash ads? Many of the other Flash ads are also very CPU intensive - using 20-30% CPU activity. The Blockbuster ad was just the worst offender, using up to 100-120% (on a Dual CPU machine), but it wasn't the only problem.

I think I'd rather pay money than have the site messed up as it has been, recently. Indeed, I did once make a donation when I realised I had been hanging around here quite a bit.

Admittedly, that one £10 payment across 6 years is not exactly "generous" by anyone's standards....

.... but it happens to be £10 more than I've spent with ANY of the advertisers, and that's a fact!

Don't even go there. Ever heard of Nikonians.com?

It isn't site specific and it does occur on any other site with a dark background, we can reproduce it with a VERY basic HTML page with a black / dark gray background. It's an IE issue and there's no work-around.

You're right, we'll start paying the staff with monopoly money.

Everything seems back to normal now from my part of the world. Thanks Phil!

...bookmark this thread. The OP's suggestion works great.

I can now visit dpr without IE8 slowing down or locking up.

Thanks to the OP, let buy him a beer!

I respectfully disagree, Phil. Please visit the Nikonians website and you won't see any white flashes at all. They too use a black BG. For me, it's only in DPReview and it started not too long ago.

...should flog you for pushing IE. ;-)

A total evil parasitic browser. Opera or FFox is good on DPR.

I thought you said the Blockbuster ad was gone? It's still here and still freezing IE on my PC even though I've taken action to restrict the sites. I would suggest fixing this or a lot of people will spend a lot less time on DPR.

I see the Blockbuster ad in Firefox but it doesn't appear to slow anything down.

I have the doubleclick and google thingy blocked and my IE8 is screaming fast now ...

I've seen it on other sites. Here's one that flashes in IE8 but looks much, much nicer in Firefox.

IE8 is a poor choice for a browser.

These suggestions have been make time and again long ago, but people are still having troubles.

Either they are not taking these suggestions or there are other issues in their computers. Hard to tell if some have tried these suggestions without success.

The Blockbuster ad was lagging my computer yesterday, but today its fine in both Firefox and IE8. I loaded several pages in IE until i got 2 Blockbuster ads and after the banners finished loading IE was not using any cpu.
