How many S2s been produced?

The camera I bought is 23A0044X, but my camera is in the shop and I have a loaner which is 23A03033. Boy, my original camera is one of the first ones! Four hundred and forty-something. :) I wonder if it would have been better off getting one of the later ones!

Hey Paul -

What's your camera in the shop for?

It's in the shop because I'm too dang picky. :) It had one, small, stuck/dead pixel so I sent it in for repair. It's ending up being quite a bit of trouble. It's at Fuji right now and they called me today because they need some of my pictures so they can see where it is (I sent them a printout that shows it, but they're having trouble finding it on their pictures). I told them it's just a simple stuck/dead pixel and I just need them to map it out, and they mentioned something about not having all the new software to work with it or something along those lines. Anyway, I sent them several original files through e-mail today and we'll see what happens.

I regret doing this because I suspect after all this "maintenance" I'll have a better chance of having DUST in the camera, which I would never have gotten myself because I stick one lens on it and that lens is what I use for all my pictures.

Anyway, it's an excellent camera, just had a single bad pixel that showed up on each photo (at higher speeds like 250th of a second, etc., and of course more at slow speeds like 1 1/2 seconds).

Here's the long thread about it if you're interested.

Horng
Fujifilm rep said that 3,240 S2 produced FOR US since June 2002 and worldwide 13,580+ in the same period. serial numbers outside of US are differently coded

Hi Horng,

I like this, real fun. I'm from Belgium Europe and I don't have an
A in my number, so I'm wondering if the A would be for the American
market and the other continent will have other characters.

Mine has 23L00212, I must have one of the first that were sold in
Belgium.

With very kind regards,

Dirk

Hi ephotoa,

Funny you have one starting with 25E, all the other US numbers started here with 23A and in Europe all those listed here started with 23L. Could it be that there is a reason why the changed the 23A in the States in 25E, maybe they changed something in the camera because there was plenty of room to continue with the 23Axxxxxx numbers. Can we see which software version we have ? If so do you know how to do that ?

With very kind regards,

Dirk

This is an interesting thread...I just looked at my S2 serial number out of curiosity, and it starts with 22A. The rest of the number is in the mid 200's. I got my camera in the first wave of S2s, in early July.

It seems most US cameras have 23A in the beginning of the number.

All I've wanted to do with this camera is replace the quality of my 35mm Nikon F100 photography, which the resolution does very easilly. I'm using the same lens I used with my 35mm. It does a bit better at wide angles and high apperatures than zoom and low apperatures, but I'm satisfied with the quality. It's a Sigma 28-200mm D, 3.5-5.6, Aspherical lens. I mainly will use this camera for studio model shooting where I'm using bright lights and f11 or so, which this lens does fine with. So, I'm not recommending this lens for everyone else, but it works fine for me. :) In fact, even at full zoom, it looks pretty darned clear..

I don't recommend this lens for everyone, but for me it works fine. I've only had the desire to replace the quality of my F100 35mm photography, and the S2 does that with resolution without any problem. This is the same lens I was using with my F100. It's a bit less sharp at high zoom, low aperature, but I'm satisfied with it. In fact, even at full zoom, it's not bad.

Mine is USA model with 22A in the 200's. I purchased it July 26th off the dealer shelf. No telling how long they had it.

Let's not be so USA centric:

80 (+ -) or so countries use PAL:

45 (+ -) countries use NTSC:

55+ countries use SECAM:

In Australia the letter is L too so I suspect A for NTSC (American)
and L for PAL video output. The first batch to Australia is 23L and
in the 3000s so Europe in the sub 1000 must have been first by a
long way (got mine yesterday :-)

I'm aware of that and figured I'd get some jabbing about that... But I do like the pictures I get with this one lens, and I'm too doggon lazy to be changing lenses all the time! But I totally agree, this camera was made for using many different lenses!

Paul
I stick one lens on it and
that lens is what I use for all my pictures.
Paul,

Just a reminder, you bought a D-SLR camera and darn good one at
that. You know... the camera has that interchangable lens feature.
Just joking w/ you :-)))

BTW, that head pretty sharp.

His number is 23A0052, so there goes any hope of determining how many cameras have been produced from the serial numbers. My guess is that neither one of you was actuallly number 52. Maybe you were the 52nd unit in that particular batch.
