Does anyone check the posters' history before responding?

I see quite a few posts that are very detailed, considering the OP may be a suspected bot.

It depends on how vacuous the question is

To a large degree you have to play it by ear and follow a protocol that suits your style and tolerance level.

For the few gems of useful information here you have to wade through a large amount of garbage.

My impression is that the site has tightened up their moderation standards recently, and following the long overdue abolition of the "Off Topic" forum the anally impacted have departed for more fertile locations.

1) if it's something I can answer or address

2) if it's something I'm interested in

3) if it hasn't already been answered

4) if I feel like it, and if I have time

If it's suspicious. If the person has a history of starting threads and never replying, I don't waste my time. But if I see a reply with catchy subject line or from someone I recognize, I might read it and end up replying to a subthread anyway.

Otherwise, it's a matter of how interested I am in it, how helpful (or snarky) I can be, how bored I am, etc.

Anyone can say that ;)

What do you mean by a suspected bot HRC2016? :-)

Well, a big criteria would be if it's something I think I know about. That limits the number of threads to a small easily managed list, sometimes to zero.

Once every so often but how interesting the thread is and if I can learn something from the posters initially guide me in reading the posts first.

If it's an good conversation who cares who started it, or if it was a bot?

I look to learn, and I try to pay back by contributing. Or sometimes I'm just looking to be entertained. I try to avoid the brand-vs-brand threads, or the "what should I buy next" questions.

I rarely open a thread if it's more than about 20 posts -- only if it's a topic of real interest to me -- and I almost never post in long threads.

Not even a personal satisfaction? Because that would be sad... :-)

I'm less concerned about bots than trolls. Though I have participated in threads which the OP was a fairly obvious troll.

I participate in threads that catch my interest, generally. Though, because of the nature of DPR's forum system, I often avoid ones that are too long.

If I checked the poster history of every thread that I was interested in enough to type a reply, in all honesty I'd have to give up replying. I haven't got that much free time, and whether or not the OP is a bot isn't that important to me. If they are - oh well. There are far more important things to worry about.

I'm quite new to these forums, but in general, I try to NOT contribute to a thread unless I have something I can actually "contribute" to, or learn from the post. Otherwise, quite honestly, it's not worth my time to respond. Sometimes I wish others would follow suit.

Well, for the first time on this 'Open Talk' forum and waiting for my magnetron dinner.

Normally, I check the OP, where he/she's from, the gear, the gallery and some posts. That may take only a few seconds. The OP doesn't mention gear and has no gallery but it is a good question... that's another reason to contribute

By name, I know who give constructive feedback. If they start a thread I will participate (if it's my outdoor playing field).

There are a few guys to avoid, they're on my ignore-list for being aggressive to people from outside the US.

You are a funny man. Are you this suspicious about everything that surrounds you? So what if i were a "bot", do bots bother you? And how do we know you are not a bot??

Also, why do you say that all opinions are your own? Is it possible that people existed long before you and developed opinions which now you claim belong exclusively to you? You really believe that your opinions and mindset have not been influenced by the people that raised you and have been around you since you were born?

Finally, if life truly has no purpose, why are you so interested in petty questions on a internet forum? Isn't that completely and utterly redundant? Much like being part of a community that celebrates Nothing(assuming that "nothing" can actually be regarded as an entity, which is highly improbable).

It's all highly illogical, but like i said- you're a funny man.

I thought all the others threads were for fan boys ?? ;) just kidding, if I can add something that I feel is of value I post. I also like being a little sarcastic with the stupid posts and man there are a lot of stupid posts :)
