Hunting for the sake of killing is an abomination. Killing for the sake on personal comfort is also an abomination. Allowing a species to die because it’s over produced and over breed is also an abomination. Allowing mass genocide of a species and then rebreeding to do it again is an abomination.
I don’t intentionally kill anything any more. I even mentally apologies to the flies when I use fly spray. I catch and release bird spiders when they stray into the house. I have a family of African rats living under the shed that gets its daily ration of food. I consider my self green. But am I ? I eat red meat , chicken and fish I drive a car that uses fossil fuel. I don’t like hunting but I conveniently condone mass slaughter of cattle and chickens which are processed in a factories of death and all nicely parcelled up in little tray’s and packets.
Why because I don’t have to see or participate in the process. I mentally tune out. The next time you eat a steak or a hamburger think of that little calf with the soft nose and big eyes that looks so cute. Then cast time forward and see the animal loaded onto a truck and taken to a factory of death where it is “ Euthanized” (lovely word is it not) . Its throat is the cut and the blood drained into cannels and then into vats to make by products like Bovril. The skin becomes shoes , wives hand bags etc. The flesh carved up and GRADED as to attach a price on the softest and most tender cuts , also allowing us to chose whether we like lean or fatty.
The go to the shop , supermarket , store and chose your hamburger/mince , steak and tell the butcher which cut you want. Then on special occasions or dishes order veal the real tender , no fat , baby stuff, (also good if you have dentures) .
I don’t condone hunting but let’s run another sequence. Game: born free in large areas very little contact with man ( Thank god) grows up in freedom . One day is grazing contentedly. BANG dead . A similar process as the cattle not so. Well NO. Wild game require large areas of space. As we are over breeding this space is take up by house’s , vineyards , CATTLE farms , etc . to produce goods for us. The game in these areas are not necessarily hunted out they move out until they have no place to go and in some cases starve. Now if an area is dedicated to conserving these animals and they were just allowed to breed wily nilly they would overpopulate and eventually decline due to starvation , weak gene pool, diseases etc. these areas have to be managed and CONTROLLED. You shoot / you pay hunting not only supplements natures survival of the fittest but adds value to the animal and in today’s work anything of value is protected. Wild game also has little commercial value as the food consumed to protein produced is low. So why keep game? Hell move in the cows.
This from someone who feeds rats under the shed , has black widow spiders breeding on the side of said shed, eats meat , chicken and has leather shoes and Bovril in the cupboard. IT me it’s survival at all costs and some time any cost even if you sell your soul to the devil but first ask who is the devil.
Oh yes people have rats in the house. OK put out rat poison , Rat eats poison , the poison causes the rats blood vessels to rupture and the rats bleeds to death internally and silently the most painful of ways. But that’s ok because we did not see it die and the rat is gone. ( We might smell it later ) but oh don’t worry there is a special no stink rat poison.
So when judging yes think of Bambie but also think of Nosy the calf . They are both cute why then don’t we
Got to go I have burgers on the barbeque.
