Hi, I think I may have messed my settings up and now can't remember what was right and wrong with remote Bluetooth settings using companion app on my a6700.

I hadn't used it for a while, but had been changing a couple of settings and now the app feels a bit different to how it did feel, and I Can't remember if this was normal or not.

From what I remember, I have it connected via bluetooth and was pretty responsive, even 6-8 metres away.

I don't recall my camera connecting to Wi-Fi when I was using companion app via Bluetooth, but now I noticed each time I connect, the Wi-Fi symbol appears on the camera LCD. This seems more strange because WIFI is actually turned off in the camera, and even after the symbol shows, if I go into camera settings, the WIFI is still turned off, even though the symbol on the LCD is on.

When I initially connect to the camera it shows as connected via Bluetooth, but If I try to disconnect from the companion app I then notice it says connected via WIFI and I really don't know how, when it's turned off in the camera.

The only reason I started thinking something was wrong with the settings was because companion app also felt more laggy than it did before.

The other thing that made me wonder if something was wrong regarding the WIFI showing on, was if I turn my home WIFI off I then can't connect, as the app says WIFI needs to be on to connect.

I assumed this must be wrong because, if I was away from the house using this, how would I connect to use my phone as a remote, if the WIFI needs to be connected?

Or am I wrong, does the camera require the WIFI to also be connected, and I have just forgot that?

Can anyone advise at all please?

Yes, for certain operations, wifi connection is also needed (beyond bluetooth pairing). From the Creators' App web site:

"In addition, a Wi-Fi connection is needed to perform image transfers or operations with the camera. Connection via Wi-Fi takes place automatically."

Brill, so that all seems like it's normal and correct then, I guess.

I did also later notice that the wifi my phone was connected to was the camera's own wifi and not my home wifi.

For connection via your home wi-fi, you will need to setup the camera wifi settings to also connect to the home wi-fi using the Network > Wi-Fi menu page.

Set Wi - Fi Connect to On and setup the Access Point (same menu page - item 3) to connect to your home network.

If that is done, then it should (in theory) connect using that common wifi between your phone and the camera.

It is finicky though. Resets often, especially if you move off the Creators' App to some other app and come back when in remote shooting mode.
