I recently received the a6700 as an anniversary gift which has replaced my a6600 and there is a lot to learn/figure out in the settings in comparison .

Today I was just playing around with it to see how pics in a high contrast setting work out and compare to my iPhone 12 Pro. First off, I am not expecting the dynamic range to be the same due to the way iPhones have Smart HDR. I know that the a6700 no longer has Auto HDR, but HEIF HLG looks really bad and standard HEIF looks decent. Neither look nearly as good as my 3+ year iPhone when comparing dynamic range.

Having said that, I do not shoot RAW as this is just a hobby. What settings would you select to improve the dynamic range of the pics I took in settings like that? I would imagine I am missing something. The menu system is completely new so possibly I have some settings off to help with the dynamic range of the high contrast areas.

Any other tips on the standard settings you all use would be helpful as well.

Thanks!

Try DRO (Dynamic Range Optimizer) +5

You can adjust it in your settings.
