HELP! New 100rs doesn't work!

See some additional hints interleaved below:
Good suggestion, but before doing that, I would turn the camera
on and
move the power switch lever all the way to the "reset" position to
force
restoration of the factory standard settings. That will set a "known"
starting point.
You must hold thepower switch lever in the reset position for 5 seconds before the reset takes place.
Pam - I don't think I saw anyone address your mention of the image
moving around when zoomed in... be sure you have the IS (image
stabilization) turned on. You'll see the little hand in the EVF if
it is.

Also, someone else mentioned that you won't hear it taking multiple
images. You can hear it if you go into the "mode setup" and
enable sound with the option that looks like a little camera with
"sound lines" coming out of it.

Also, when drive mode is working, while the shutter is held down
you should
see a horizontal progress bar in the right center of the EVF that
grows with each captured shot, along with a vertical bar on the
left side showing how much buffer space is left (sequence mode will
stop when you let go of the shutter or the buffer fills up.).

Press the "info" button by the EVF a few times to make sure you
have a "full display" of all the options in there.
Pam My 1st suggestion is to go into(Camera) menu page 5/5
Go to mode Setup, push Arrow Pad to right, then ok
He meant "press OK".
now you should be at screen 1/3 , You should see all Reset at
top, click arrow to right and turn it off.
He meant, press the Arrow Pad towards the right to see the list of choices, OFF, ON, and CUSTOM, then press the Arrow Pad up or down to select OFF. Then to make this choice "stick", you must press the OK button.
( This way once you
figure out the settings and how they work they won't be reset
everytime the camera shuts off.)
Whenever you make a change in a menu setting, you must press the OK button; if you want to finish the menu setting tasks, press the "OK" button repeatedly till the menu no longer is visible.
Then read manual on particular settings. If pre capture is on it
will say Pre with an icon on top of camera in led, also there will
be a continuous icon with a number that corresponds to the FPS
setting.
Hope that helps. Also Use the proper batteries.

But, to me it was also obvious, given
the length of time the shutter stayed closed and the viewfindeer
stayed black. It could not have been more than one shot.
In drive mode, at least at 7.5 and 15fps..... the shutter doesn't go
black between shots. Still can't help but think there's an option
you're missing..... drive mode is pretty much a software function
on this thing.... can't see how a "mechanical" problem would
cause this not to work....

I'd suggest calling Olympus' toll free support line listed in the manual.
Because it's an "E" series camera... it's they're "profesisona" line and
I've heard you get to a real person pretty quickly. They can
probably talk you through all the steps to try faster than we can

via the board here. And if it's still not working, you're already on the phone to arrange a repair?

Hi Pam:

Here's how to view sequential shots in a slide show sequence.

With mode dial in view (green icon) position, turn camera on.

Use Arrow Pad right presses to move to "representative image" of a recorded sequence which is denoted by the words, at the bottom of the image, EXTEND> DRIVE. (This disappears after 3 seconds). Next, press the Drive button to get into the "extend" mode. To start the slide show sequence, press Menu button, then press the down Arrow Pad to point to the sequence play mode, denoted by the pile of 3 screens icon. Next press the Right Arrow Pad to show Play, then press the OK button to start the slide show sequence. The sequence of images will then be displayed, each one showing for 3 seconds. To stop the sequence, press the Menu button, then the OK button (to get out of the menu), and then press the Drive button to get "back" out of the Extend mode.
Yet again, you all are great with suggestions. I DID not know you
had to press DRIVE to view Sequential pictures, and now I do. But
I still do not have any. Before, I was just going by the number of
pictures left on the picture counter to confirm that I was not
getting sequential pictures. But, to me it was also obvious, given
the length of time the shutter stayed closed and the viewfindeer
stayed black. It could not have been more than one shot.

I guess I could/should put everything back to factory settings. It
would be good practice to change all the settinge back to my
personal perferences, without using the Cliff Notes.

I will paly with her once again tomorow. For tonight I must
sleep.........

Well, I am busier than a bee right now, with 4 horses that need riding, guests coming in to town for the yearling sales, the bathroom remodeling (I am refinishing my new clawfoot tub myself with all sorts of toxic chemicals, plys tiling the floor and doing the painting and wallpapering).

But in my "free" moments, I keep going back to the camera and fiddling and I am getting closer to the right answer. I put DRIVE in Sequential mode on and took pictures of the puppy sleeping (an exciting moment :O))). Nt only did the shutter stay closed longer, but the pictures counted down quickly. So I feel certain that I took my first set of sequential shots. I believe that before I was pressing the DRIVE button, but not realizing that it had different options, and so was not putting it in the sequential mode ---- no one said this was easy!!!

However, even with the wonderful directions about viewing sequential shots, all of which I understood and followed, I just got a slide show of the pictures in the camera that I had seen before. Only the first picture of Maggie-puppy asleep showed up. Next on my learning curve is to learn to download pictures onto the computer ....... Then I will be able to see if I truly HAVE a sequence of pictures of Maggie-puppy.

I have put that off, since my old computer still has windows 95 on it and my new computer has Windows NT or whatever the initials are of the latest and greatest version. Officially, the software is made for 98 and 2000 only, but I can download drivers for my new computer according to Olympus. It is the kind of project that I know will frustrate and annoy me, so I have delayed it until I have enough time to be frustrated and annoyed....

In the meantime, any other suggestions as to why I can't see the sequence when I feel sure it is in there and I am following directions exactly?

Again, thanks for the detailed help. I could never have made it this far without you. And its a lot more fun than sitting on hold with Olympus. I am also a tad intimidated to even send in my Warranty: I centainly know my name, but I have no dealer name to put in that box on the Warranty card...... Will Olympus believe me if I put eBay?

I think enough good info has already been posted here that if you re-read

the responses, and re-read the sections in the manual regarding shooting and viewing sequences (especially pages 86-87 for shooting, and 92-93 for playback) you'll be all set.

As for the USB / connect to PC issue, Windows 95 does not support USB which is the interface standard used to connect the camera to your computer. Neither does Windows NT although there are some 3rd party drivers I've heard you can use.

Windows 98, ME, 2000 "natively" support USB, as does Windows XP which is the "latest" version of Windows (perhaps that's what you have?).

I have a separate card reader, so I've never actually hooked up my E-100 to my computer, but I believe it's what is called a "storage class device", which is a fancy way of saying that you just plug it in and the computer should automatically "see" it and assign a new drive letter to it.

Keep at it. You'll get there. Good luck and keep us informed.

Oh... and you didn't buy the camera from E-bay, they were just sort of the deal broker... who was the person/company your payment went to?

On the other hand, why not just write "Gift" in that space?
