Help needed to recover corrupted image...

Anyone with any tips? TIA.
If the file I have is correct it is 165,557 bytes size.

I tried https://www.jpegmedic.com/tools/jpegmedic/ and it could not find any form of any image in that file so I would guess that the file past recovery.

Presumably you are unable to go back to the source from whence you found it though you could try http://wayback.archive.org/ * to see if it is available from there or try the cache on your own machine though likely gone now.

* I couldn't get http://wayback.archive.org/ to open at the time of trying but I have used it in the past to find something that has since been removed.
The Wayback Machine got hacked recently; perhaps they're still recovering.

I just tried it. Working now. (23:56 EDT 25 October 2024).

This is a small jpg image downloaded from Facebook.
Screenshot?
Its "image save as..."
Which apparently doesn't work.
Actually it worked, I could open it without problem, then something happened to my computer and a bunch of jpgs don't open anymore. This is only one of them. Hopefully I can learn something here for future reference.

Thanks for all your help so far.

Do you know what happened to cause the corruption?
Unfortunately, no idea. :(

I had something similar happen to me a few months ago. I had a folder of photos downloaded from Facebook. I did a few tweaks to them with FasStone Image Viewer then printed them using Windows Explorer's print dialogue. Everything was fine. A week later I opened the folder and some had become corrupt. I tested all of my hardware but cannot find anything wrong. It remains a mystery but also a worry. Luckily the corrupt photos are available elsewhere but I would rather know what happened so it doesn't happen to some important shots.
