Have to set time/date each time I turn the camera on

Hello!

I have a Canon Powershot A510 digital camera. I've recently started using it again after a long break (obviously) and I've noticed that it has started to show me the "Set Date/Time" screen eachtime I turn it on. Once I enter the date and time it stays put, up until I turn the camera off and back on. I've changed both the AA batteries and the small, flat one to brand new ones, so I don't believe it's their fault. Other than that, I have no issues with the camera and other settings don't reset like that.

Any help will be appreciated! Thanks! xx

Most cameras have a small button-type internal battery to power the clock when the camera is turned off. It sounds like your camera's internal battery has lost all charge so that the date and time are not updated when the camera is turned off. These small batteries are generally not replaceable by the user.

It looks like you have already replaced the battery responsible for keeping the time set. I replaced the "coin" batteries in all of my old Canons last year. That fixed the time reset issues. Other than verifying the correct replacement battery and voltage of the coin battery you inserted, I haven't a clue other than dirty contacts.

With my model, the battery is in fact replaceable and I did replace it with a brand-new battery, yet the issue is still there :/

If this was MY camera, I would be taking the multi meter to the battery to make sure it was not depleted. I would also make sure I did not insert it upside down because I was watching a youtube while i was doing it and not paying attention. $^^* happens! If I could prove the battery did indeed have all the juice it claims on the package, I would then clean all the contacts with a suitable solvent. If it still has a problem I would reset the camera however you do that with that camera--I don't know how because I don't have that camera. After all this if it still had the problem, I would threaten the camera with physical abuse. "don't make me come back there!"
