H2s overheating while idling

First time I saw “temperature limit reached” was 5 minutes after unboxing, updated firmware to latest 3x and it started to show up occasionally after 10-20 minutes of camera usage

Sometimes right after start in cold temperature (-10C) sometimes no error after 4-5k photos in preshot.
When error happens, camera reboots and then works normally for some time. Battery and card are cold, camera a little bit warm but far from being hot

Full Settings reset, working without card, disabling boost, raising Temperature limit to “high” in menu - no luck, once was able to replicate error even without lens

Tried last trick before return - placed camera and battery separately in the fridge (-24C) for two hours … and now it seems to work correctly - tried “burn-in” test - after 5 minutes in 6k prores422+proxy recording warning icon raised (never saw it before), after 10 minutes - “temperature limit reached”, camera warm, battery warm, card - hot. Rebooted, started h265ai recording - after 1 hour - no error, no icon, camera finally really hot

Not sure what exactly helped - fridge or leaving camera without battery, but what was that? I used t2, t3 and t30 in the deserts under direct sun at +45C without any errors and reboots. I understand h2s is “hotter” by design but that behavior with shutting down after several photos in cold weather was totally erratic.
Is that some kind of temporary software error (doubt, firmware update for sure rebooted camera) or calibration error (never saw self calibrating temperature sensors in such simple applications as measuring cpu temperature), or I should replace camera? Anyone had same issues?

If your intent is to take photos of the inside of your refrigerator I'd keep the camera. If not I think you should exchange it.

That is not normal and if it's within the stores return policy I would get an exchange. I would imagine that's faster than a warranty repair from Fuji.

Any chance it could be your memory card? Some CFEs seem to cause unpredictable issues with X-H2s/X-H2 cams in some use cases with current firmware releases. There doesn't seem to be a good consensus on these issues yet but they do seem to happen. You did say your card got pretty hot at some point. Are your files corrupted or are they okay?

I have a feeling that Fuji has their thermal settings firmware calibrated in a way that might not reflect our real world usage.

If you're just using a fast reliable SD card tested in another cam - then never mind lol.

Not in the cold

I would return it for another X-H2S.

I have had mine since November last year and have not encountered what you described.

Bad luck to get a defective one.

Trouble is that after fridge exercise camera seems to work normally (not only inside fridge :D ) and it would be hard to explain why I need replacement.

My concern is how it will behave when it gets hot. I'd just tell them what you experienced and leave out the fridge.
