GPS solution for Geotagging

Interesting, any other software for managing tracks? CalTopo?
Garmin replaced Basecamp with Garmin Explore. If you get a GPSMAP 66 series, you can use Garmin Explore to manage your tracks.
I have a 64s and I can (and do) load OSM and GPSFileDepot maps on it. Can you still do that with the 66 series?

I never warmed up to BaseCamp and still use MapSource (plus lots of other map tools).

I'm a long-time user of OziExplorer. I can import Garmin GPX files and using Ozi, I can edit tracks and waypoints. But you do need to supply your own digital maps.

GPSBabel is a current software that can transform tracks and waypoints between many different formats. I can convert Ozi waypoints and tracks into Garmin format for upload.

Topo! was a good tool, but it only runs on 16-bit Windows and had rather limited coverage. (Topo! was originally produced by Wildflower Productions who later sold it to National Geographic.)

Hi,

I'm looking for a reliable GPS tracker in order to geotag my photos (and also my trips). I have a Canon 5DsR and I use Capture One.

I saw the GPS tracker from Canon but it seems too big to carry around. I am often on locations where there is no phone signal and it happens that I travel up to 4 weeks before to have access again to my computer.

I know that there are apps for the phone but I don't have an idea how precise they are on locations far from cities.

Looking on the internet I found the I-GOT U GT-600 but there are almost no review for this tracker. I had a look also at the Garmin website but they have a lot of products and I think most of them have far more options that I would need.

Do you have any suggestion?

thank you!
I'm confused at exactly what you are trying to do. Are you looking for something that will automatically give you a GPS coordinate every time you take a photo so you can map your photos, or are you just looking for something that will track your hikes, walks, where ever you are standing and then create a KML, GPX file that you can use on your laptop later?

If it's the latter, I'd just download the free app mapy.cz for your phone, it's free, you can track yourself when you want, you don't need cell service, you can it's topo mapping off by downloading the region you will be in, you can download the GPS files, you can save your own tracks afterwards or create routes before hand to follow, you can manipulate them on their cloud-based website, you can pull GPS coordinates anywhere you can put your mouse... Why use a dedicated GPS unit when everyone has a GPS enabled phone with more powerful features?

Trying to understand the workflow you are you trying to accomplish, seems like there are 20 replies and nobody has really asked you what you are trying to do. What do you mean by you want to 'geotag your trips' that's a really broad statement. What is the workflow you are looking for to accomplish this? Something all in one? Something you will download to?
Thank you for your reply, at the end I've got a Garmin GPSMAP66s because it allows me to track my work on the field and have my photos geotagged. I used my phone in different scenarios but while it is great in the cities it fails when I'm in the mountains (I live in Europe and valleys can be quite deep in the Alps).

Here is a good link to many (free) OSM maps you can get for your 66s. Upload the maps to your receiver via Basecamp.

Thank you!! :)

Yes via Basecamp.
I'm glad to hear that Garmin hasn't disabled this valuable feature.

With the 64S (and my prior 76csx) you can also load the gmapsupp.img files directly onto the micro-SD card. I have named folders on my micro-SD card for many different locales, and I simply move the gmapsupp.img files in and out of these folders as desired (using a computer, of course).
