I've been trying to do the firmware update on the GH4. I download, put the down load on the Transcend 64gb xc card, load the card, press the play button, and it says I have nothing to play. I tried it 5 times. I erased the card and and the downloads front the computer several times and then redid it. Nothing. I have a new iMac. Anyone else having problems?

Love what happens.
Did you try to use a SD[HC] card ? I have seen hints that the update process does not work with SDXC cards.

I used sdxc card think it's the bin file within the folder you require from the download

Second thought, macropaul may have given the answer already.

" I download, put the down load on the Transcend 64gb xc card, load the card, press the play button, and it says I have nothing to play."

Which is correct because the camera does not find the file it expects. The downloaded file GH4__V20.zip must be unzipped to extract the "GH4__V20.bin" file which must be placed in the root directory of the SD card.

You'll need to use the bin file with a sdhc card (32 gb or smaller)

I also used a Transcend 64GB SDXC without any problem.

- full charged battery

- .bin file in root directory of SDHC/XC

- insert, press "play" ....

... done

I had the same problem, and strange as this may sound, you probably have downloaded the wrong file (which is exactly the same as the correct file).

See my thread - http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3734067

You have to go to this page: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/download/fts/index.html

And then you HAVE to scroll to the very bottom of the page (ignore any links on the way down) and accept the license... (I think this is the key), then you will be taken to another page (with a blue table), click on the GH4 firmware, then another webpage will pop-up (dont forget to enable pop-ups!), and click to download that file... its the one that worked for me. It looked exactly the same, but it worked!

So, format the SD card in camera

Take two photos! Yes, seriously, take 2 photos.

insert card into computer

copy file into root directory

turn camera off

insert SD card

start camera up

press review button, and the update should start.

Also Make sure battery is recently charged.

Thanks to you all. My problem was not dropping the file into the root. Had no ideas what that meant. It meant not putting it into any of the three existing files on the card, but just drop it in the card file to join the three. The 64 card worked fine, didn't have to have any photos on the card.
