Hey - trying to do the update, and following the instructions (download, unzip, etc.), but when I get to the part about inserting the formatted) SD card into the camera, and press "play" I get "No valid picture to play".

So no updating for me... any one else get this, or have a suggestion to get the update to work? I use a Mac...

Thanks

Tim

as i recall from the last firmware update, if the card is bigger than 32 GB, the firmware update won't be detected. so SDXC bad, SDHC good!

Frustrating... tried reseting camera, charging battery, using different SD cards (2GB, 16GB)... still nothing.

You are sure that you have transferred the file with the ".bin" suffix? And it resides on the root of the SD card, not in a catalog deeper down in the file structure?

Try formatting the SD card in the camera before copying the firmware file (".bin") to it.

The basics are that the resulting GH4__V20.bin file needs to be in the root directory of the SD card, never put it in any of the folders on the card.

[edit... you beat me to it !]

yup, checked the file was both .bin and placed in the root of the SD card (formatted in camera)... any other suggestions?

I will try extracting the file in a PC instead this morning...

question - is there anyway to do a "deep" reset - more than just a normal reset? The camera has just returned from a servicing, maybe that's an issue (although why, I have no idea).

"No valid picture...?" Are you sure you've set the camera to USB storage (and put the card in the camera before connecting)?

From reading your post, it's unclear exactly what you've done in what order.

Where do you see that instruction?

Reading this carefully, I see nothing about setting the camera to USB storage?

I followed the instructions very carefully... so I am stumped.

- formatted card with camera - check, etc, etc...

- insert, press play - "No valid picture to display"

Thanks

Tim

Take couple of shots - they will be in particular folder

Your update must be on root directory of SD card.

Camera in bag tends to stay in bag...
ok- so I formatted a few SD cards, and all that I see are the following folders: DCIM, MISC, PRIVATE. I did NOT copy the .bin file into any of them, it now appears below them.

Going to try my luck phoning Panasonic... taking a chill pill before I call...

OMG - got through, and got a live person... reasonably quickly (1800-211-7262 - say "Digital Still Camera", ask for technical support.

OK, so I was told to try this:

Format the SD card in camera, TAKE TWO RANDOM PICTURES

Insert SD card into computer, copy .bin file to SD card

Turn camera off, insert SD card, turn camera on AND ALMOST SIMULTANEOUSLY PRESS PLAY BUTTON.

Will try all that tonight, we shall see...

"Turn camera off, insert SD card, turn camera on AND ALMOST SIMULTANEOUSLY PRESS PLAY BUTTON" - oh my... I did not mention it. My bad! I have a habit to turn camera OFF every time I remove card from camera.

I'm sure you will be fine now.
