Hi All,
Just to let you know: the issues in the first batch of X100Fs are not far fetched. After a one month long waiting today I finally received a message that my pre-ordered camera had arrived in store. No free leather case though, yet. I decided to pick up the camera anyway and keep waiting for the case.
However, having read almost everything about the X100F in the internet, including this thread, I came to the shop with the list of checks to be made before paying for the camera.
The camera was brand new and factory sealed. The first thing I noticed was almost empty battery. So if you want to examine carefuly camera in store before making a purchase (
which I absolutely recommend) bring your own charged battery and SD card.
The second thing were
three big dust particles in the centre of the lens together with a fourth, smaller one. Those would probably not be visible in pics - but I cannot accept something like this in a brand new camera that is over USD 1500 worth (PLN 6100 in my case). I therefore decided to skip this piece and wait for the second batch, hopefully this time - with the promised case.
I also noticed that the
cover of the LCD screen is a bit soft/mushy, especially in the lower right corner - which was also mentioned in one of the posts here. Nothing major, however in comparison, the screen of my (beloved) X100 classic feels rock-solid.
Hope this helps those of you who are about to pick up their cameras.
PS. By the way, I am very much used to the user experience of my X100 classic. It is with me all the time. I am considering an upgrade (X100 stays with me anyway) because of: the AF (esp. in low light), better high ISO, Classic Chrome and Acros, better EVF and WiFi - to name just the major improvements... HOWEVER, after playing for approx. 10 mins with the X100F in store I am not that sure anymore that I really need this upgrade. The X100 still feels great and remains a wonderful camera! Here's one of the many proofs:
So do I really need this CChrome, Acros etc. - or is it just a severe GAS attack
Cheers from Warsaw, Poland!
Michal.
