Fianl updates to E-M5 preview

I was wondering if we can get a few more details on how Auto ISO operates. Specifically:

Can you customize the bottom and top of the range?

Can you bias the program line towards faster or slower shutter?

Minimum shutter speed?

Does it operate in Manual mode?

Much appreciated!!!

1) How programmable is the is the bracketing mode ie. :

1a) What is the maximum number of frames in a bracketing sequence?

1b) Can the bracketing interval (apature increment) be set?

1c) If so what is the range per frame?

1d) If the bracketing aperture increment is not user programmable, what is the pre-set increment??

2) How fully is tethering supported?

Thanks

I have no idea about tethering, I'm afraid.

Oops sorry I just read again the preview and saw that it was all explained! Somehow I just missed this paragraphed the first time.
Anyway, thanks for interacting with us in this forum. It is much appreciated.

How do you feel when you hold it (with 12-50) in your hand compare to others cameras. My 10 year old son has little hands, do you suggest it to him at all?

I'm guessing the dials have fixed functions in the various shooting mode (aperture/exp.comp. for A, aperture/shutter for M. etc.). Or is there some level of customization applied to the dials as well?

Thanks again for the great preview!

Oh - one last thing - you might include a photo or a mention of the fact that the tripod thread is offset from the lens axis :(

Thanks very much for this enquiry thread, its an excellent idea.

I would like to know the video modes. The statistics published are contrary, so far, as they say a frame rate of 30, yet they also say the camera is switchable from NTSC to PAL, and PAL is 25 (plus a little bit) frames.

Thanks for your work.

There is LOTS of customization for dials (just as there was on the E-P3).

It's customizable per shooting mode so you can choose which function goes on which dial and specify for each shooting mode.

So, for instance, in Aperture Priority mode you can have FNo (aperture) on either dial and then put exposure comp, flash comp or FNo on the other one.

You can even specify which dial scrolls up and down menus and which delves in/out of them.

If you have a firm idea of what you want, it'll probably let you do it.

That's a good point, I'll add one.

I think I saw this address on the interwebs somewhere, but I think a number of folks were asking about shutter noise.

What he means is can you go from an aspect ratio of 4:3 to an aspect ratio of 3:4 without losing any resolution. In other words, is the sensor over sized to minimize loss of resolution when shooting other aspect ratios.
I don't understand the question.

The idea that it uses the GH2 sensor contradicts what Olympus told us.

Yes please, can you clarify things concerning the sensor ?

The specifications are incomplete, can you tell the maximum number of pixels we can get for each format, rather than only for 4:3 ratio. This is to clear up things concerning the assertion of Kirk Tuck at visual science lab, who seems to imply that the OM-D has a multi aspect sensor like the GH2 ?
Since the GH2's sensor is over 18 megapixels and this one is 16, it's a pretty safe assumption this is NOT the same sensor as the GH2.
That is what I thought untill I read the Kirk Tuck report. The number of pixels quoted by DPreview is also exactly the same as what they quote for the 4:3 ratio on the GH2 and both the GH2 and the OM-D have very fast read outs of the sensor. It may be a coincidence and may be the Olympus folk interviewed by Kirk Tuck misunderstood the question, whatever this is now circulating on the web and quoting the pixels sizes of the different format ratio would help clarify that definitively. Hence my suggestion.

I completely understand. I've just set them up side-by-side and shot them. The GH2's sensor is clearly larger and isn't 4:3 aspect ratio. The E-M5's, buy comparison, is bang-on 4:3.

I'll try to get a cleaner shot and post in a minute, but I'm now confident in saying it definitely isn't the GH2 sensor.

The sensor definitely isn't oversized.

Richard - dpreview.com

So what is the point of the 3:4 aspect ratio then if you'd be better off tilting the camera 90 degrees?

How different is the shutter to the Pen 3s?

Clarify video mode settings

Look for bugs with the new ibis

How good is new ibis shooting video

Pros/cons of different evf refresh rates (if I have that right?)

Differences in SCP to pen 3s

Ok, maybe this is for the review...

Thanks!

A general comparison of the 'old' VF-2 and as it is implemented in the EM-5.

One specific question -

Is the brightness and colour temperature of the EVF adjustable? (on the xz-1 it is not, but I believe on some of the Pens it is.)

Thanks
