FF vs. DX is Like Automatic vs. Stick

Frankly: What is the problem? I my job I have refused ALOT of pictures from FF digitals, because of light falloff in the corners. All of them from Canon's. I KNOW that using the center part of the lense..ie. a DX sensor eliminates this problem. Now who's driving horses and carriges? In my part of the world everything gets smaller and better. But still there is this neurotic hysteria about FF. Why dont you go buy yourself a Canon and crawl back into your hole, or join some anonymous FF-community group?

The only reason Canon makes cheap FF's is because there is a market based on lack of technological knowledge out there. There is no reason for making a sensor that is bigger in this kind of cameras. The Hasselblad has a really BIG one, a lot bigger than a FF 35mm. Maybe you should look at that one? If I ruined your sleep now, I am sorry. Take it up and discuss it in your group. I am tired of all this moaning about old technology. Enter the 21.st century and be happy.

All estimates are FF is 10x the cost of APS and the sensor is by
far the most expensive component in the system. In PC's only the
status seekers and the very few with a legitimate reason would
spend 2000 on a CPU. Last year an interview, translated by a forum
member, with a Nikon exec suggested at that time FF was possible
but for $10,000.
That's where Nikon needs to get with the program. The 5D is only $3300. The next generation Canon 1-series FF body is probably going to be not much more than the price of an APS D2X.

I'm a FF proponent, want FF, don't want DX.....Even in cars that don't > offer an automatic option can have one put in after-market (the > Lamborghini and Ferrari come to mind). With the Nikon stance on DSLRs > our choice is clear, DX or DX, unless you want to switch.

Currently refusing to upgrade until Nikon gives me FF.
Anyone who would put an aftermarket transmission in a Ferrari should not be given a driver's license.

What is "Full Frame"? To me my Deerdorf 8x10 is "Full Frame" I want all of my cameras to have an 8x10 inch sensor...it just makes sense to me! Nikon is not giving me the option I want. I am going on strike until Nikon comes out with an 8x10 sensor!

I think I am going to puke.

Why do you expect an answer, when you don't give one yourself. :-)
for the first time I see a topic on FF vs DX which truly makes sense.

I love DX but apparently Adam doesn't,...and I do agree with him, we should have a choice (I might even buy a FF next to my DX)

If you don't have a point please move on. :-)

If you are curious about someone's wife you'd better move on to your nearest supermarket...there will be loads of them. ;-)

Placing a smiley in each sentence with an attitude, doesn't make up for it. (or did it work?)

Cute. "Full Frame", in the context of Canon and Nikon DSLR bodies, refers to "full frame 35mm" or "36 x 24mm full frame".

Are you also irritated that GMC does not make a two seat sports car? Or that Ferrari does not make a pickup truck? Or that Nathan's does not sell hamburgers, while McDonald's does not sell hot dogs?

There is always a choice. Just don't expect every vendor to provide every choice - that's why there are different vendors out there.

No sh^t! Now I get it. Thanks for making the concept clear.....but why would anyone care about a little tiny full frame like that???

I think I'm going to puke! again!

It's because it's the largest frame size that your Nikon 35mm lenses will support on a Nikon SLR body.

I am one of those too who is looking forward to a FF Nikon. It will happen eventually.

I've never started a thread on FF. I've commented on it in other
threads. I thought my point was clear in the initial post: having
read through all of the posts this week I think people are debating
the wrong thing. it isnt canon vs. nikon or FF vs. DX (in terms of
which is better), it's about options. if my passion for the
situation bothers your, I would encourage you to:

A: not read the posts
B: no respond

But thier not going to let Canon dictate the time table. And you shouldn't want or expect them to bring a product to market that does not meet their standards. It's not Nikons fault that Canon has 10 times the resources in sensor development, on the other hand Nikon clearly has a better design and ergo team as well as better autofocus and flash and metering. Not to mention the Nikkor lenses. Look, FF will come when it's ready.

For Canon that may be now, but I wouldn't shoot Canon glass FF, APS or 110! I like the look and feel of Nikkors much better, and so do a lot of Canon shooters who will be adapting Nikkors for thier 5D.

Personally, the only thing I miss about FF is the FOV of the 85mm 1.4 and 28 1.4, and I will buy a FF Nikon for just these lenses, but for general shooting the D2X and 12-24/17-55/70-200 are amazing.

Yes I would like a choice, but I'm willing to wait for Nikon to get it right, and not cobble together a 5D competitor.

Guys - as usual it all comes down to economics. Forget the which is better debate - it comes down to $$$. Most people are forgetting how small a company Nikon is compared to Canon. Its not cheap developing AND cranking out both DX&FF cameras as well as all the accompanying paraphenelia... Yes it would be nice but Nikon probably has some really tough financial constraints to go by. My guess is that it would be uneconomical for Nikon to go FF only for a "flagship" camera it would need to push it "down the line". On the other hand their DX models especially the D70/D50 lines have the volumes to help the bottom line .... its going to take some tough decisions.

You DO have choice, right now.

If you want FF now, then go to Canon because Nikon does not offer that.

Your statement is ridiculous. It is like you were complaining about Porsche because you could not buy a Porsche with 6 wheels! If you want a vehicle with 6 wheels, you should not complain about Porsche or any other manufacturer that does not make one... just go elsewhere (say Unimog) and buy it.
