From Dec 2024 all electronic devices must have usb C charging in EU. Is it likely that camera manufacturers are going to adapt older DSLR cameras to meet this legislation?

Who knows but it may give manufacturers a nudge to drop DSLR's completely by then. No doubt Ricoh will modify theirs.

Doubtful. You can charge older DSLR batteries externally. Smartphone batteries are integral to the build of the smartphone.

Indeed.

Why? This EU law is being enacted from Dec 2024. Every electronic appliance with a removable or separate battery MUST have built in usb c charging .

To clarify: not existing cameras. All brand new cameras must have usb c charging capability.
So why your original question..."Is it likely that camera manufacturers are going to adapt older DSLR cameras to meet this legislation?" Might be mute as there is no reason to as current models already on the market are likely not affected...even ones still to be assembled.

My opinions are my own and not those of DPR or its administration. They carry no 'special' value (except to me and Lacie of course)

There is no grandfather clause. ALL product MUST have usb c charging built in. If not it cannot be sold. We discovered this today with some swimming pool re chargeable vacs that we import for sale in EU. Existing product without usb c cannot be sold after Dec 2024.

I think you are misreading what it affects regards past/present/already in production/in the future

Yes, aware of that. But I already have usb camera battery chargers for travel purposes and USB C versions are becoming available too now. So, its no big deal. Curiosly, the EU legislation is likely to increase sales of chargers initially at least although fewer in the long term!

Camera mfrs are already building in camera charging into new models. But yes, there are not many new DSLR models coming out!

That’s effective from 2022 when the law was passed. From Dec 2024 there is no longer a grandfather clause. We received written advice from our EU importer today.
“Parliament formally approved the agreement on 4 October 2022. After it has been formally approved by the council, EU countries will have two years to introduce the rules into national laws. It will not apply to products placed on the market before it comes into force.”

Our EU importers advised us today that all our products must have usb c built in or they cannot be sold from Dec 2024. The legislation was passed in 2022 with two years to sell through existing products. I see other people including Mr T Hogan have picked up on this..

Are they new products (even if just adaptations of older ones) since the law was passed ? As far as DSLRs are concerned, how many new DSLRs have been introduced since 2022 ? I can think of one Pentax …..

Not that the law impacts me (living on the other side of the pond) but the wording likely reads something like: "...manufactured and sold after..."
