In order to prevent a dozen similar threads, this thread will act as the thread to discuss DPR closing its doors. Other threads will be locked. General thoughts also welcome, but hopefully community members can discuss other forum options moving forward.

Totally shocked - did not expect this. I’ve been a member for 20 years - nothing can take the place of dpreview. Hate to see you guys go.

Well, darn. That's disappointing.

After a long hiatus from DPR participation, I had started to reengage recently, and was enjoying the site quite a bit. I'll miss DPR.

On one hand, I'll miss the gear-centric forum.

On the other hand, I won't miss the FF bias.

This is what happens when you belong to Bezos.

DOES SOMEOMNE HACKED DPREVIEW ? :-O

While this is unexpected and sad news, life moves on. What recommendations would folks like to share for existing online photography forums where collegial discussions and photo sharing are welcome? Alternatively, what options are available for creating a new platform for those purposes?

Sorry to hear this. DPReview has been a great resource for the nearly 20 years I have been looking at it.

Does anyone have any favorite alternative forums they would recommend? There are several I visit occasionally but DPReview was always where I went first.
Forget Fredmiranda...haha

Many thanks to all at DPR - right back to the days of Phil. I was a latecomer, only signing up at the tail end of 2001...

DPR has been a truly valuable resource and it is a shame that the owners are not looking at selling it on.

I believe the line goes 'If you build it, they will come..'

I hate this news. Though I'm relatively new, there's so much knowledge here and so many great archived posts. It's a shame that all of that will disappear. Reminds me of when Lonely Planet shut down their forums. Decades of shared knowledge and experience just wiped out with a few keystrokes.

If Amazon does not need Dpreview anymore, so be it. Is Amazon simply going to close the domain? Why would they do that? Sell it, and maybe some of the Management here can purchase it back for a small investment amount. Or, take back control from Amazon for an agreement to allow Amazon to advertise here for FREE for a period of time.

I am sure Amazon is paying salaries here, and probably not making sufficient enough money to maintain this website, but it would be foolish to just close it, and not try to make some return on their investment. Why not try to negotiate a "buy back" and then you guys Manage it like Phil Askey use to do.

I have no idea what the participation volumes are here anymore, because I do not see the data, but there is a lot of effort here to make a wonderful website, and it sure would be a shame to just let it die.

Just me two cents worth. If it does indeed close in April, then THANK YOU for all the years. As it has been a very informative website, and I have learned so much from the use of this website.

Thanks to Phil, Richard, and the rest of you for the ride, but I truly hope something can happen to keep this wonderful website alive.

Long time member totally bummed. Found many friends and acquaintances here and learned a lot, especially on the Nikon forums. Anyone have other forums to suggest to migrate to?

I never quite understood what Amazon thought they gained from ownership.

Best wishes to everyone I know who's worked for the site over the years, especially Simon Joinson and Barney Britton.

Other than Nikonians and maybe Fred Miranda, any places to move en masse?

I hope Amazon sells DPR off instead.

How much do they want for it?

Obviously this came as a complete shocker.

I joined back in 2006 and have spent many mostly happy hours on this site. I have learned a few things and shared a few things.

I'd like to thank all members here for their contributions, responses and commentary, excellent photos, and sage advice. And I wish all those who work here for DPReview a prosperous future wherever they may land.

Cheers!
