*** CTF Challenge 81 – Perspective Disproportion ***

Lonnit,

The mugs are glazed but in time the dishwasher will fade the image.
I guess if you hand wash them they'll last a long time.
thanks for the tip.
The biggest problem with Cafepress.com is you're setting up a store
and they have only one mug and you can put only one design on it.
So, if you wanted mugs of all your kids your would have to set up
the first mug, order it and pay the shipping, then after the first
order is filled set up the next mug, order it .... etc.
You'll end up paying for a lot of shipping.
That's not how you do it. You set up multiple "stores", each featurin a different picture. Then you make your purchase all at once.
Setting up a "store" at cafepress.com is free. They do have a
premium set up that costs money and allows a lot more options. I
don't know much about the premium setup.
Yes, I've seen that. I figured I'd do it if the multiple stores were successful. I don't do anything to promote it. I've only had about a dozne sales in the 12-24 mo it's been open, so I never bothered consolidating to one store.
My family has used cafepress for a lot of things like the joke we
played on my younger son on a recent Alaskan cruise! That's him on
all the t-shirts we're wearing and that's him sitting in the center
of the pic.
LOL!

I had another half a dozen ideas to enter for the challenge but every one so far has come to nought because of the difficulty i'm having in getting the focus right. It seems looking at the entered shots that the best i feel are those where all objects are in focus and the sense of perspective disproportion is heightened. All of the ideas i've had and have tried to photograph have ended up as just close ups with a background so out of focus that you can't tell what the idea is. Where the DOF is very good i find the background being out of focus is not quite so important but it's a very hard job to get right.

Not a complaint at all but an observation. I know it can be done but bugger me it's hard to figure out how when there's not a great deal you can do with a G6 lens.....or is there?.. hmm

Having lots of fun anyway. I tried something this early evening with a bottle of wine and a cork as it's friday but it was a disaster. Nice tasting disaster though...hic..hic.:> )

Paul

I tried to get Mutley to sit still for a while so i could focus on his nose to try and get the effect of a huge nosed dog. D'you think the bugger would sit still for a minute? Pah! Whenever he stopped moving then just as i was about to click the shutter he would decide to lick his nose or yawn or lick his backside. Never work with pets. The below is the best i got, perhaps i should tranquilise him with a glass of wine....

& set your lens is at wide angle & shoot in AV mode & set it at F8, this will give you maximum depth of field (area of in focus) Or if your little point & shoot has a setting called "Pan focus mode" (the little picy of a mountain & a human head on your mode dial) then you can set it on this & everything from about 2' to infinity will be in focus. If this is further than you want to be away from the lens then you can crop the shot in your editing software. What you have near the lens may not look as big as you want though, but give it a try. I bought a lens hood for each of me lenses to day & the macho rig looks really mean now, I might have to start taking picys soon.

Gday Rich
Could I get your humble honest opinion of your new 55-200 lens?
I will start shooting tomorrow, so everyone stand clear:-)

Hi Rod, IMHO, I haven't really formulated am opinion yet, but I like what I've seen so far. I only got my lens about a week before you and have been too busy to really experiment. But even with some limited shooting in and around the house I can see a lot of potential. Its great for sitting in one spot and rotating around the room getting close-ups of everything, LOL. And when zooming in on a distant subject at 200mm camera appears to be shaking yet pic comes in sharp, what more could I ask?

I'm going to put that lens back on the camera now, I wonder if I will find it be more helpfull for this challenge.?

Heres a thought, maybe you could take a disproportionate pic of your new dslr with the G3 emphasizing it's macho-ness. HeHe I mean HaHa. LOL Rich

most of the time, i have felt that its really difficult to get the disproportion feeling with center weighted shots.

negative space in off-centered shot provides opportunity to add more of the subject (or other subjects) to heighten the sense of disproportion. IMHO, shots with off-centered disproportionate objects have more impact/drama.

if i were to try a similar shot...i would put dog's nose on the left/right third in the landscape composition and would try to cover him all the way upto the tail. nose covering more than half of the frame though. if you just want the face, then you have to get to an angle (just a little left/right/up) from the nose. hope this helps...

The current entries are so good that I'm having second thoughts about submitting anything. They are so good, it's intimidating, grr.
