CPL filter for 20-70mm that doesn't vignette

I'm adding this lens to my arsenal for a compact travel option. I think it will be hard to not vignette at 20mm and f/4 with any brand and model (especially if I leave on the UV filter I have on). But for landscapes, I typically shoot >f/5.6 so that could fix the issue a bit.

The filter form factors vary a lot. Some CPLs say that they have slim form factor but I've found those claims overstated sometimes. If you have a good recommendation, can you share that here?

Thanks

I'm partial to B+W for CPLs, and clear filters, have only strayed to other brands for strong NDs (Breakthrough Photo & Formatt)... I've stacked thin filters (B+W Master/XS-Pro & T-Pro which is marginally thinner) on lenses wider than 20mm, so I'd be surprised if the 20-70 G vignettes with thin filters tbh.

I've been able to find the exact frame thickness for the B+W models in the past, but the specs aren't as readily available as they should be, I can take a caliper to mine if you want but I'm traveling right now and didn't bring anything beyond a smaller 49mm CPL.

I don't have a 20-70 to verify, but I can confirm that B+W Master filters do not vignette on Samyang 14-24.

I have a Marumi Exus CPL in 72 mm on my 20-70. It doesnt vignet even at 20mm. But 2 filters stacked would vignet.

I also tried Kase Revolution 72mm magnetic filter set. A single filter is fine, but 2 stacked does vignet in extreme corners.

I upgraded the Kase set to 82mm and it does not vignet with 2 filters stacked.

Hi,

I use a Kenko Pro1D Circular Polariser (W) MIJ. I don't know what the "W" stands for. It has a fairly thin rim and doesn't vignette at any FL or aperture. I've had no problems.

I haven't tried stacking a second filter with it - I avoid stacking but concede that it might sometimes be necessary.

Regards, Rod

Why leave on a UV filter? Not a good idea and can get stuck together. I had a ND and polariser stuck together, never could get them undone. I never use uv filters on digital.

Yes vignetting on this lens is an issue, as is the huge distortion at 20mm, but l'm not having too many issues with my ND filters. Both can be fixed in post processing.

Slim or wider than your filter tread will help, many are using 82mm magnetic filters now.

Brands depends where you are and prices. K&F and Freewell are getting some good reviews.

Also Kase and Haida should be alright. Some polarisers are stronger than others, check the reviews.

I don't recall how the B+W CPL performs on this lens, I can run a test when I get a chance...I do have their lower profile version
