Hello everyone, I'm trying to download pics from my X-T2 direct to my mac. The computer can see the camera, but not the images. Any solutions would be gratefully appreciated.

What are you downloading with/to? It may need updating to recognise the raw files from XT2. For instance - I believe you need LR 6.7 for XT2 raw files and LR6.13 for XE3 raw files.

I download with (free) FastStone image reviewer to manage and browse my files and also open the files in LR or PS or whatever from FastStone.

Thanks for the quick reponse, Vic. I've not shot any raw images yet, these are all jpgs. I have no problem with a card reader, it's just annoying that it won't work stright from the camera.

What kind of machine is it (windows, mac os, what have you)? is it up to date? what program are you trying to use to get to the photos?

Download the Silkypix Fujiflm software from Fuji. At least that way you'll have everything necessary on your machine to download and make the files visible. If you want to also handle Raw then download the Raw developer too.

I'm using a mac pro with image capture. It's not a big problem, I can always use the card reader. But it's niggling that it won't work.

Understood. Vic's suggestion of using the Fuji acquisition software is a very good one, should fix you right up.

Perhaps you can educate me (and perhaps others) on this. I’ve always used a fast card reader to import my images to the directory in which I want them to reside. It’s fast, straightforward, and reliable. I then simply import them into LR and do my editing... obviously, the same process could apply to any editor.

What advantages would you get from doing it the way you’re attempting?

I've finally figured out what the problem was. A simple tweek in connection settings was all it needed to download from my X-T2. I'll probably not use this method, but at least I know now why it wasn't working.

I would like to know what the "Simple Tweak" was in case I encounter a similar problem when I try this method .

Many thanks

Hi Keith, I'm sorry, I should have said what the solution was. Go to set up, connection setting, then in PC connection Mode check USB card reader. I must have played with the settings when I first bought the camera, then forgot to put the correct setting back. As I said, I'll probably still use the seperate card reader, but don't you just hate it when something doesn't work?

Thank you for the reply.

Like you I shall probably stay with the card reader solution as this is the way I have always done the job and it works well.

Personally, I don’t like handling my $120 SD card at all. I utilize the Fuji interface software and my USB 3.0 cable. All works well and never had a problem. I will reformat the card as Rico suggests in his 120 tips book.

Thursday night, I upgraded my X-T2 firmware to 3.00 and installed the new X-RAW Studio. X-RAW Studio requires that CONNECTION SETTING/ PC CONNECTION MODE be set to USB RAW CONV./BACKUP RESTORE. So, I changed the setting from USB CARD READER to test the new X-RAW software.

Yesterday, I went to a local event and just shot RAW so I could test X-RAW Studio when I got home. WhenI tried to download via the cable, Photos opened up and recognized the X-T2 but none of the RAFs were visible. So I opened Image Capture and got the same results, the X-T2 was there but no files. After several tries, I removed SD card 1 from the X-T2 and put it in the Macs card reader. All of the RAFs were there and were instantly visible in Photos and Image Capture.

This is a problem because you have to download the RAW files from the X-T2 to your Mac before you start X-RAW Studio. This gives you two scenarios to choose from.
  1. Set PC CONNECTION MODE to USB CARD READER, connect USB cable and download RAF to your Mac, change PC CONNECTION MODE setting to USB RAW CONV,/BACKUP RESTORE, open X-RAW Studio, convert RAFs to jpegs.
  2. Leave PC CONNECTION MODE set to USB RAW CONV,/BACKUP RESTORE, remove SD card from X-T2 and use a card reader to download RAFs to your Mac, replace SD card into X-T2 and hook up X-T2 to Mac with USB cable, open X-RAW Studio, convert RAFs to jpegs.
There is another option that I have been using for quite a while now with my X-E2. Connect you X-T2 to your Mac or any HDMI equipped TV with an HDMI cable. Press Preview and the output to the LCD is sent to your computer monitor or TV instead. Then use the camera's controls for RAW file conversions.
