CL file issue

About a month ago i had a problem with my Q2 not always writing files to the SD card. I'm still having this issue but that's another story

Yesterday I was out with my CL. Because of the problem with my Q2 I decided to check every shot had been saved at capture. No problems came up, all image taken were stored correctly. However about an hour after finishing shooting my wife wanted to see the images. This is when the first problem was seen.

Some of the images displayed correctly on the camera screen but others just came up with a file number ie L1001872.jpg. I was saving the images Ljpg + DNG

I have just gone to put my images into LR Classic but none of the images from yesterday are there either as a DNG or jpg. I checked on Finder, the card is visible as are all previous files but none from yesterday. I have removed the card from the system several times and rebooted. NO change.

I've then put the card back into the camera, the images from yesterday I saw when showing my wife are still there, but all the files that I could only see as a file name seem to have gone.

The card I used was formatted in camera and only used in that camera. I am using a Lexar Professional card. I use a Mac Mimi M2

Finally I have just fired off a few shots, all are visible in camera on review but not as a file either in Finder or LR.

Any help would be great

Could it be corrupt SD cards? I only ever Format in camera. 1 card for each camera..I would be tempted to reset both cameras, format new cards in camera and go from there… 🍻

So, you are saying you are having essentially the same problem with two different cameras? If that's the case, I start would start looking at what they have in common. Like the way you use your cameras (especially image review), workflow, memory cards, etc. Do you have a metal detector on your front door, do you live under high voltage power lines..... Just kidding, but there has to be something in common that would cause these issues with two different cameras. Good luck.

About your memory cards. I read your other post about the problem on you Q and you mentioned the Lexar cards you use.

I have read about counterfeit Lexars being quite common. Were all of your cards sourced from the same place?

Have you tried different brand cards?

You didn't mention card capacity but if your cards are greater than 64gb have you tried a smaller card. For example my M10 has issues with Pro Grade 128 cards that work just fine in my Nikon and Fuji cameras. But the 64gb version works ok. It also locks up and is totally unusable on a couple of Sony Tough cards I've used with no problems in my Fuji GFX.

No it's a different problem, on the Q2 images I thought had been taken and saved hadn't.

On the CLyesterday I was being cautious and basically chimping every shot, going to play and checking the image was there - which it was. Later on roughly half the images were still available on Play but the other half was represented by a black screen and a file no ie L10010976.jpg

Today when going to transfer I can still see the images on Play but the black screen with file numbers have disappeared.

When I plug the SD into my Mac it doesn't see any files from yesterday including the ones I can still see on the camera back screen.

All the other files from before yesterday on that SD card are still there, still visible and still downloadable on to my Mac

Hi Mike yes both cameras have the same type of Lexar cards, from memory bought at the same time from a reputable company - doesn't guarantee they aren't counterfeit though I guess, I live in Thailand after all !!

Both cards are 128GB same type, I have already filled 2 cards exactly like these without issue bought at the same time.

I have got some other new Lexar cards still 128GB but are a different model. I've also got a San Disk 32GB but UHS 1, not sure if that is quick enough.

Final note on this the Lexar SD card is corrupted. I have no idea why it suddenly happened. I put in a new card (San Disk) formatted in camera and at this point everything is good.
The odd thing is when I looked at the SD card (Lexar)again this morning more of the files that were saved on their and still visible yesterday have disappeared on Finder on my Mac but still visible in camera. It seems very odd to me.

I've tried to recover the missing files using Disk Drill but only about 20% have been recovered. I’m glad that I always transfer card to Mac as soon as I get home and not had many days of shooting lost.

Thanks for your suggestions

Glad to hear you’ve solved your problem!

Just out of curiosity could you post a close up photo of both sides of your problem card?

No problem at all. I still can't work out why some of the images are still visible on Play back on the camera screen
