Here's my votes for the competion gallery.

Punts by Flick Merauld 4,
great composition and beatiful sepia

"Irrigation Ditch" by Albert Yanowich Jr. 3 points,
hypnotic water.. I can hear it

Unreality by Flick Merauld , 3 points
great surreal shot. The splash of red and the sky make the shot

Misty Morning Pool by Tim Ashley, 2 points

Fabulous contrast of the water with the misty background. Now I now why you moved ;-)

Liquid Islands by Francesco Tonelli 2 points
I'm a sucker for textures and the lighting here is just great

"No Spoon Splash" by Charles Gervais 2 points

Great water! ... and I swear I was not influenced by any resemblance to the female anatomy ;-)

Bizarreness in general might make an interesting theme. I wouldn't
want to restrict it to bizarre clothing, since my wardrobe contains
only jeans and T shirts. (I don't do weddings!)
I'm sure you have impeccable taste and all that, but I just don't
believe you haven't got some horror hidden away somewhere or other
Well, I have a couple shirts with buttons at the far end of my closet, but I'm not at all sure the buttons will fasten with me inside the shirt.

But to bring the conversation back to the topic of the forum, here is a 14n shot in full, glorious resolution of the most recent addition to my wardrobe, so recent it hasn't been through the washer yet: http://www.warrensarle.com/Kodak14n/Examples/images/T-shirt.jpg

Well, this is getting tougher every time. Desperate times call for desperate measures so I'm afraid I've decided to really narrow the votes down to pics that say "WATER" at first sight, and then follow through with a great eye for a shot, composition, execution etc.

This means that there are many many FAB shots that I haven't given points cos they're just not watery enough. In fact, some of the best shots fell into this category, including some well executed reflection shots that were really not too watery at all but still very good indeed.

Enough: here are my votes:

COMPETITION

Splash John Denton 4pts (hits all nails on head for me, I love the way it captures the dynamism of water. Just feels really fresh and lively but dreamy too)

Irrigation Ditch AYJ 2pts (Lovely abstract that makes me want to jump in the water right now)

Puddle Francesco Tonelli 2pts (I'd buy a postcard of this: subtle colour treatment and a great sense of narrative)

Liquid Islands Francesco Tonelli 2pts (this guy is very classy with a camera and makes me jealous of his combination of technique and vision)

Pebbles Underwater Bob Cody 2pts (makes me want to dangle toes, right now - it's hot here!)

Spoon Splash 2 Charles Gervais 2pts (technical virtuosity and artistic merit - I can't do studio, and admire those who do it so well)

Victoria Square Fountain Paul Rohal 1pt (Lovely clear shot, nicely done, would love that in my portfolio)

Sunday Morning Jono Slack 1pt (perfect in every way, great colours, just not quite on-theme enough for me. Jono's 'Not a Drop' is awesome, but as a 'water' shot it's a bit of a stretch!)

Honourable mentions:

All Jono and Flick's pics. John Hill's great bubbles, which would have got my votes if I wasn't a theme rules freak. AYJ's Mesa Creek, which I like a lot.

EXHIBITION

Sketching on the Arno Jono Slack 4pts (Ok it's a reflection shot but it is perfect)

Derelict West Pier Dave M 2pts (tough subject to avoid a cliche with and this is a really good avoidance!)

Reflections Flick 2pts (if I lived somewhere with a wall that watery I'd move, but this is a great example of shooting to theme and finding a shot out of nowhere)

Blue Surveying the Storm Jono 2pts (this boy's eye for a shot is scarily good)

Sky and Sea Quentin B 2pts (tasty classic landscape that's watery too)

Dreaming John Hill 2pts (not all that watery but it's the sort of shot that grabs me compositionally)

Splash Claudio 2pts (Claudio adds great timing to his other accomplishments...)

There we go, just got them in before the bell and looking forward to being more active in teh next challenge...

Best to all

Tim

Hi John

It sounds like the bubble shots were 'found' in the way I 'find' stuff - just a case of keeping your eyes open and making the best of the moment. You certainly made the very most of them. Sounds like a great way of avoiding the washing up as well!

And thank you too!

kind regards
jono slack
Thanks for the kind words. The bubble shots were a perfect
example of grabbing an opportunity. I was at my mother in laws for
a family lunch. As we were wrapping up I noticed my daughter and
niece blowing bubbles. I grabbed my camera ran outside and begged
for them to keep it up for a couple more minutes while the "adults"
finished cleaning up. I was blessed to join in on their fun.

thanks again, John
Hi There
It's great that there were more entries this time - and a pretty
high standard at that.
It's so difficult to make choices, but here we go

Competition:
Bit of a whitewash by Flick here - I thought all her shots were
lovely:

4pts - Kingsmead by Flick Merauld
not usually convinced by partially recolouring - but this really
works

3pts - Misty Morning Pool by Tim Ashley
original and very characteristic of Tim - great

3pts - Punts by Flick Merauld
not a new subject, but nicly done, and the sepia works

2pts - Puddle by Francesco Tonelli
somehow more than it seems at first sight (another successful
recolouring job)

2pts - Pink Drink by Quentin Bargate
sooo formal! I love it,

1pt - Can't stop the water by John Hill
Well, it made me smile - it's nicely realised and I liked it better
than the bubble pics
(which, though well realised, seemed a little too contrived).

1pt - Unreality by Flick Merauld
Flick again - I think this is excellent, and would have given it
more if it wasn't for
the other two!

Exhibition:
Lots of wonderful stuff here, choosing was very hard, but here's my
(current) feelings

4pts - On the half shell by Francesco Tonelli
What Francesco does best - wonderful and mouth watering.

3pts - "A Mauritian morning" by Quentin Bargate
A lovely photo, he deserves more for carrying all that gear to
Mauritias!

2pts - Rockpool at Crackington Haven by Quentin Bargate
I love this kind of shot, and he's done it so well.

2pts - Dreamy Sea" by John Hill
Nicely composed, and nicely executed

2pts - Splash by Claudio Gatti
just GREAT!

1pts - Derelict West Pier, Brighton by David Millier
David's caught the nostalgic mood really nicely here - great shot .
. .
and more interesting as the pier has now (I believe) washed away.

1pts - Breakfast by David Fink
Hi David! I really like this one - I also liked the composition
and idea of the
Virginia barn, but thought it let down by the quality of the scan.

I also think that Warren (our reluctant organiser) deserves a big
vote of thanks - he's done it with a very good grace! It was also
nice to see John Oliviera from Kodak entering into the Exhibition
gallery - let's have more from the yellow guys!

I agree with Paul - for the next competition let's change the
rules, so that the previous winner can join in, as well as organise.

I also think that it was a good idea to have a pretty general topic
like 'water' - there are not enough entrants yet to make it a good
idea to exclude anyone with anything too specific.

Kind Regards

Hi Warren

So, that'll be sometime next month? I know it would be if I was counting them - you could, of course, just award all the prizes to Flick, who takes nice pictures, is a powerful piece of kit, and wears purple velvet singlets.

kind regards
jono
Results will be announced as soon as I can manage to add the votes
up twice and get the same answer both times.

I don't know till I know what piece of kit you think I am ;-)
Well, a powerful and SPLENDID one (regal in purple velvet singlet) . . . . . . after all, 150 miles isn't THAT far!
Flick, who takes nice pictures, is a powerful piece of kit
?????
I only dare to take the mickey because I'm 150 miles away

:-)
