Has there ever been a fix for the "Camera Error. Turn camera off then back on." error message for my NEX-6?

It's making a potentially nice camera rather useless.

Interesting that there's never been a response to this question. Surely I'm not the only one who's had the experience.

I've been using the NEX-6 for nearly 3 years and never had that problem. Sounds like your camera is broken.

My research indicates this is a common issue ... one that hasn't been resolved apparently. Glad yours is working well for you. I quite enjoyed mine until this showed up.

Yes, something like this. Well, typically this message means something is wrong with your camera hardware, and service may be the best solution. But before sending your camera for service you may try.

1. Check the pins of both the body and the lens for debris. Clean it with soft cloth or ear stick with small amount of alcohol (very carefully to ensure alcohol do not drop into camera).

2. Same with SD card contacts.

3. Switch the camera off and remove the battery. Switch it on for 1 minute (without battery). Turn it off again and reinsert the battery. Power on the camera.

4. Make camera FULL RESET from the menu.

5. If all that fails - then service only :(

I guess I didn't see your post when you first put it up, but my NEX-6 did that too.

I'd get that message the first time I turned the camera on after an hour or more being off. Sometimes only once or twice, but usually 6-8, and sometimes 10-12 times before it would settle in and behave itself. Over time it seemed to get worse.

I've tried everything I could think of to fix the problem including the routine that Bolshevik mentioned above. I finally solved the issue by buying a used NEX-6 on eBay in hopes it will last until Sony makes a replacement for the a6000. So far, so good.

Just a wild guess, but I think the physical shutter is to blame and somebody that knew what they were doing could probably fix it.
