I've been looking for a tool to batch remove noise from raw photos and have come across:

1) darktable

GitHub - darktable-org/darktable: darktable is an open source photography workflow application and raw developer

and

2) RawTherapee

RawTherapee - Downloads

but when I run them both through virus total, I get detections.

1) Are these the best free tools to use for this purpose?

2) Are they both false positives, and how can I be sure, before I install?

While I can't comment on the ones you mention, I might suggest that DxO Photolab 8 is the best software I have found for noise reduction. It is, however, not free, and relies on the software having a profile for the camera & lens being used. You can access a fully functioning free 30 day trial to try it for yourself. I am not aware of a try "batch" command, but it easy enough to apply corrections to the first image and then copy & paste those corrections to the other images as a "batch".

You can select a batch of images for DxO software to apply exactly the same settings for any number of parameters (even including cropping) to the whole batch. Then go back and fine adjust individual images. You can also do a batch export in the same way. I've only ever used this facility with the whole batch coming from the same folder. The PRIME and the various DeepPRIME options only work on RAW files and the DeepPRIME options do so much work that they slow the export time enough to make me do batch exporting at the end of the session as a matter of course.

Yes, I do like that when I copy and paste the corrections to other images, I get the option of which corrections to paste - for example, I can choose to paste all corrections except the horizon correction or cropping (or any other individual correction).

I haven’t used the apps you’re asking about but do use DxO PL 8. It’s not free but does go on sale periodically, with Black Friday usually being the lowest price.
