I made these in 2022 in the Canadian Rockies. ALMOST ALL recorded OK but the JPG and Raw files were corrupt and would not open correctly and here is an example. It would not copy directly to the computer hard drive---- I had to copy and save it to a separate file folder and didn't have any issues.

RAW file would not open. Computer said it was a "pcd" file and to rename but I didn't try.

I had the original SD card and all of the files copied to my hard drive with no errors or issues.

Would appreciate any thoughts.

This was with R5 and also had a couple of issues with R7.

Thanks, Kent

How were you transferring the files from the camera to the computer? I had similar problems when I tried highlighting>clicking>&dragging the files from my memory card to the computer. Now when I want to move files I use the Import > Copy to file location > Done function in Lightroom Classic and haven't had any troubles in years. If you don't use Lightroom, I would expect that highlighting>copy>paste might work as well.

Thanks, Carl. I remove the SD card from the camera and put the card into a USB/SD card holder and then create a folder in Windows (10or 12--- I can't remember) and drag the files to the new folder. I had one more issue with "Route 66" files except this time I got a "?" with Canon DPP and "can't recognize file" with Windows but it was different from my original post.

This sort of issue is usually from a bad card or a bad connection to the reader. Sometimes you can get a good copy of the file by putting the card back in the camera and copy it by tethering the camera. What brand of card are you using? How long have you had it?

Well, the only time I've ever had corrupted files (and this is after making and transferring over 300,000 images from camera to computer) is when I dragged them instead of copying them. I'm sure that thousands of photographers have had no issues dragging their files from the card to the computer, but I no longer drag them, I copy them.

It's been a while since I've used Windows, but I think dragging across different drives does a copy, leaving the originals intact. So it's the same thing as copying. Dragging from an SD card to the computer would be using two different drives. Dragging to another folder on the same SD card would move the files by updating the directory details. The actual files remain. This is why recovery tools can often recover such corrupted files: they reconstruct the directory.

Sincе you mеntionеd that you wеrе ablе to copy thе filеs and savе thеm to a sеparatе foldеr, this suggests that thе SD card itsеlf may not bе thе main culprit, howеvеr, thеrе arе still issuеs to try a diffеrеnt card though prеvеnt any possiblе hardwarе. As thе RAW filе cannot bе opеnеd and is rеcognizеd by thе computеr as a "pcd" filе, it is possiblе that thе filе titlе information is corruptеd, causing thе computеr to misintеrprеt thе filе typе and thе filе rеnamе could not solvе thе problеm.

Thanks, Ellinor. I'll see if I can try any other methods.
